For example: I have an Ob/Peds exam on Monday. I have attended all of my lectures and have actively listened, but I haven't read or studied until today. Today I read over all of my notes and will do some NCLEX questions tonight. But tomorrow, I know for a fact that everything will soak in because I will spend a good 6 hours cramming. It works for me though.

Wow!! Thanks for sharing your study method because I thought I was some kind of crackpot nursing student as that's pretty much exactly how *I* study lately!! I have a test with a lot of content on Monday a.m. and I just have not been able to make myself sit down and study, although I promised after the last test that I wouldn't put it off again. I scored higher than the class average on that test, but I was panicked going in to it!!

I manage to find almost anything to do instead of studying -- cleaning back porches, moving sprinklers around my yard, laundry; any of it's a good excuse for me!!

Good luck all!!!

well what if you did stuff while you study like put notes on flash cards and take mini study breaks then you wont feel like your studying but you will have covered the info atleast twice, once when you make the cards and gain when u read them.

im a crammer to. if i have a test monday i start to study sunday late morning. but it works for me.

I force myself to go to the library. Even though I live by myself and have quiet at my apartment, I never get as much done b/c I will start and stop to do other things. Finding a place to study where you can focus without distractions will help you to spend your time more effeciently. I could get done the same amount of work in 2 hours in the library vs 4-5 hours at home! Speaking of which, it is time for a visit today...

well done!! Thats 3 hours really well spent. I've also found that strong cups of tea help me settle down and work!! do you have to give lots of lectures, or is this for an assessment?

I teach a course for a local university. My regular job (at a hospital) also involves teaching classes to practicing nurses.

Preparing for class is much like a combination of preparing for an exam and writing a paper. You have to review the material and be prepared to answer questions about it. Then you need to decide which material to present. Then you need to prepare the actual presentation and write test questions -- knowing that you have to be prepared to justify each decision you make along the way.

So far today ... I have written my test question on Watson's theory. Now, I just have to write a few on Benner.

When I finish that ... I'll just have to organize everything to take with me to class tomorrow night ... e.g. my lecture notes, PowerPoint, and the last quiz so that I can go over the answers with the class, etc.

This is what I am doing with my "weekend off" from my hospital job. The school doesn't pay me nearly enough ... but I kind'a enjoy it when it goes well and doing it is an investment in my future career.
