Because I have been going to college for so long (went when I was younger...partied way too much!) I have run out of financial aid. I have been given the chance to appeal it, but would like your opinons on it.

Dear Sir or Madam:

I would like to ask that you reconsider my application for financial aid for the Spring of 2005.

I realize that I have failed to make satisfactory academic progress, however, as my life situation has changed form the time I first attempted college, I would like the chance to finally finish my college degree; this will only be possible with the help of financial aid.

Although I went to college when I was younger, I was not serious enough about it and did not finish my degree. Now that I am older, married, and have children, I am very set on earning my Nursing degree not only as a personal goal, but as a step in giving my children the opportunity to attend college when they are ready. I have worked hard toward my goal of becoming a Nurse; I believe this is evidenced by the grades I have earned at Angelo State since my admission to the University and the Nursing program in Summer of 2003.

Again, I ask that you reconsider my application for financial aid for the Spring of 2005 as it will be my last semester and it will impossible to finish my Nursing degree without the help of financial aid.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Sara McKee

I think it sounds good. Have you been receiving aid up until now? I really hope they can help you out especially since it will be your LAST semester!

Sounds good - just change "form" to "from".

thanks!

on what basis are these decisions overturned, ie financial hardship, or unforseen circumstances? for example, you took out loans for a semester, but couldn't continue class that semester for an illness or a death in the family and now that money was wasted? perhaps you could address that in your letter.

Thank you all for your input!

Good catch, bigmona! It's been changed and reprinted!

TopCat - I was informed that you are only eligible for FA for 12 semesters and as of Spring 2005, I will have been enrolled for 12.5 semesters...

Keep the input coming!! :)

I don't know if that's only a policy of your school, but the federal guidelines may be different. I didn't think there was a number of semesters capita, I thought it was more a monetary capita (maybe with the Pell Grant there is a number of semesters limit, but what about loans?)

Best wishes with your appeal. I found some of your sentences long and rather difficult to read, but that may be just from having been typed into the forum - and they may be organized better in your actual letter. Keep us posted! :)

Hey Manna!

I asked if it was just grants or were loans included in the semester cap, and was told (by my FA office) that it was both loans and grants...

I appreciate your opinion on the sentences, if you have a suggestion for improvement, please let me know!

have you been attending this same school for all 12 semesters?
