Helo guys! I would like to share my orientation experience!!!

I got at the school around 8:45AM and, we were scheduled for a 9AM start! We had assigned seats, and when we walked at the door we were given a candy cane, which had a number, and that was your seat!

Since not all of us knew each other already, we started a warm up thing, so we could get to know a little about our peeps. Then from that we had to turn in Our Drug test results, vaccinations, physical, TB results, and proof of health insurance.

We then met Angie, who aparently is a nice person, she was very sweet, and she will be teaching us Pharmacology. She introduced herself, A.R.N.P for 12 years, still practices, (which i like that fact) and was very honest with us.

We went through the hand book, and had all that information, about cheating, plagiarism, and all that stuff, than we read all the rules, 76 makes a C. She was very nice to us, and seems to be very helpfull!

After that we received our schedule, no clinicals for the first 3 weeks, and after that we will have Clinicals once a week 6AM-330PM, until april, and then we will have it twice a week, and in september 3times a week.

We got to pick which hospital we wanted, and which day of the week, thur or fri. The nursing director is awesome, and she said that we will have our clinicals always like that, always scheduled, at least 1 month in advance, so we can prepare our selves!

So she answer the questions we had, and talked a bit more, and then they bought us Chickfillet for lunch.

After Luch we started our CPR class, the EMT's and the Firemen came and lectured for 4 hours. We practiced a whole lot on the dummies, and baby dumies, whi the mask, and the different Ambu's.

We then took our test (we needed 85%^) and everyone passed!!!

now our classes are going to start in 3 weeks!!!

argghhh i am so excited, ah the pharm teacher gave us homework. told us to read chapters 1-10 and do all the exercises, and also told us to study for the Drug Dosage and Calculation, because we need to get 90%^ on the test which will be given on week 3, adn we have 3 chances to pass it, otherwhise it will be a drop! she will let us pre test a few times she said!

our labs will be open until 5 pm every day, and classes are from 8 am to 2 pm mon-fri.

:banghead: i banged my head a little but now, i am confident with my drug calc. i hated that Apothetic system! i will never forget it now though!!!!:D

can't wait to start class, i have printed a few, notes, and memnonics, from allnurses, and have gotten a list of medical abbreviations... got the flashcard program for the iphone, (gflash is free) and skyscape, and medical calculations, and epocrates, and afew others.

BTW they now have a medical section which you find books, and flashcard sets from pharm/ A&P, and other things like that! they are 30 bucks though, but my friend is taking a&p now, and she is loving the flashcards! it has helped her quite a bit!

let me stop typing now, otherwise, i will will never finish, Ohh i got a gift certificate from my work, and one from my coworkers here!!! they told me that is for my Litman cardio III (which i found online for 132 bucks!!!)

comments are welcome, specially from the people that are going to start now, or just started.

Put your seat belt on. You are going for quite a ride. Good luck and take care!

You will do great. Just start by reading up on NCLEX style questions. There was a book I read called Test Success: Test Taking Strategies for the Nursing Student (I think that was what it was called) which helped me do well in Fundamentals. I think you already have good study habits because you have done well so far.

The Littman Cardiology III is the same one I have and it is really a good stethoscope. Congratulations! Wishing you much success.

Best regards,

Jean

At least you came out of orientation so excited and on fire for learning. I remember feeling freaking terrified after my orientation. lol. Seriously, though, don't ever lose that passion. Nursing school is crazy, but if you do your best and never give up, graduation will come before you know it!

Sounds awesome! Definitely pick up the book Jean mentioned (it's great) and also be sure to get an NCLEX review book. I like Saunders, personally. Good luck on your journey!

Thanks so much for the tip about gflash...I checked it out and it looks amazing! I am a flashcard junkie, but they're a pain to carry around, so I am hoping Santa brings me an iPod Touch for Christmas!

Congrats and good luck with school.:yeah:
