Nursing Magazine Subscriptions

Nursing Students General Students

I already receive RN magazine (got it through a student subscription service on campus) but am looking into subscribing to another magazine. "Nursing Made Incredibly Easy". Has anyone subscribed to this and if so, how do you like it? I checked it out on Amazon which is $10 cheaper than offered on the Lippincott site. However, it says it can take 6-10 weeks to get your first issue. Woah! Long time! What other online subscription places offer this magazine? How did you get yours?

Help this ole magazine shopper, won't ya? :)

No wait....I just checked Amazon again. It says 12-16 weeks for first issue! Yowza! :stone

I worked for 15 years in magazine publishing, and know that 6-12 weeks is pretty "norm" for getting a sub started. But they ususally come much faster than that. Also, if you call the circulation dept. and tell them you missed some issues, they'll generally send them out for n/c. We used to do that all the time.

That said, I have no clue which magazines are good! I just know how the sub/back issue process works.

I'd be interested in knowing also. Did anyone sub to anything before they got into nursing school? I know I can borrow old copies of RN and Nursing from my MIL, but can't keep them. Is there any sense in subbing now, or should I just wait?

Nursing Made Incredibly Easy is a bimonthly, hence the long potential wait, but it just depends on when in the publishing cycle you subscribe. Like Whitney, I was also in the magazine biz before going back to nursing school, and the timeframe they tell you to expect the first issue is generally the most pessimistic -- it's assuming you subscribe just after the previous issue's print order has been finalized and that you live on the far ends of the earth where mail is delivered once a week! The circ dept is just trying to avoid those endless "where's my magazine" calls.... That said, it shouldn't make any difference in wait time whether you order from Amazon or Lippincott.

Lippincott is offering a free trial issue right now. It may not be on their website but go to the library and flip through another Lippicott pub and look for the subscription cards. Get your freebie to see if you like it, then write cancel on the invoice when they send it to you and order it through Amazon if its that much cheaper.

It's a good magazine, I enjoy it.

I've gotten 3-4 issues and I like it alright. It's not the most scientific journal I subscribe to, but it is a good, basic nursing journal that explains things in simple, easy to remember terms... just like the promos say. If you want depth, go for Nursing 2004 or RN - but if you're looking for bare bones essentials in easy to understand language, it's great! Hope it flies - I have had several subscriptions "go under" on me in the last few years. Must be rough to be in the mag pub world.

Thanks to all of you who replied. I went on ahead and ordered "Nursing Made Incredibly Easy" along with "Nursing 2004". We're often needing nursing journals with which to write bibliographical assignments. Of course, knowing my luck, I'll never get an issue covering the subject I need...haha

Thanks, y'all!

Hi!

Could someone who currently receives this mag, check to see if there is a website listed for the magazine itself? I've not been successful in finding it online thru searches. I've found sites that sell the subscriptions, but was hoping the magazine itself had a site to check out before subscribing.

Thanks a Bunch!

http://www.magazinevalues.com is where I ordered my mags from. Nursing 2004 and Nursing Made Incredibly Easy. The "norm" for the industry is 6-10 weeks... but I already have 2 issues of Nursing 2004 (back issues for the year) and I ordered less than one month ago.

Nursing 2004 is very, very cool!!

I am hoping that the Made incredibly easy one is also!
