Nursing Course - LPN

Not sure if anyone can help. I've asked directly at my school, and haven't managed to get an answer. I will probably contact my state board too, but figured I'd ask here just in case someone can help =0)

So - I am almost done with block 2 of an ADN. Without going into the whys and wherefores, and although I'm actually doing pretty well in class, I'm considering stepping away from school and taking the LPN license instead. Then, when I feel up to it, I can return to school to complete the degree.

My question is - I haven't been on an actual LPN course, but is it possible to get that waived since I will have completed block 2 of the ADN? Or does the LPN course have content that I will have missed? I'd like to go ahead an sit the exam and start work as an LPN (if I pass).

Does anyone have any idea if this is possible? Or do I need to have taken the LPN specific course? Thank you!

There are more than a few state boards, all with their own sets of rules. You may want to look online, as many BONs have applications and requirements for licensing listed on their sites.

Hey AC,

Because I was considering doing this myself and we attend the same program I can answer your question, you may have figured it out already. Yes, you can go LPN but you have to take one additional course which I believe includes mother/baby nursing. You'll have to forgive me, I can not recall the course number, but if you talk to an adviser they can tell you. When I was considering it, it was over the summer, complete block 2 of course, then take the additional course for LPN, it was 10 weeks and I believe you had to do 2-4 clinical days. I'm not sure if you have to wait until they offer it over the summer or if they do one prior. Anyhow, you take that additional course, do the clinical days/class days, pass and the school submits your paperwork so you can sit for NCLEX-PN. A couple of my classmates did it over the summer, they are working as LPN's until they graduate in May. Lucky devils. I hope this finds you well!

Definitely check with your state BON or your school. In my state, you receive all of the necessary courses for your LPN in the first year of nursing school, but I know (thanks to All Nurses!) that not all states are like that.

thanks everyone!
