Hi everyone. I am Firstina, 32 years of age and a Biochemist. I seriously have the urge to go to nursing school but I am thinking its too late. Pls friends what do you think? Can I start a nursing carrier at 32 years of age. Pls I need all the advice I can get. Thanks everyone as I anticipate your comments.

You are never too old to learn or change careers. I was a medical assistant for 10 years before I decided to go back for my RN. I was 41 y/o when I started on my gen ed credits and entered the RN program just shy of my 43rd birthday. If I can do it, anyone can.

Good luck to you in your quest for your nursing career. You will not be sorry!

I am 53 years of age and recently passed my nclex rn. You have many years ahead before retirement so go for it.

I started nursing school when I was 46. And surprisingly I had classmates who were my age and older. It's never too late to pursue a dream!

I graduated from nursing school a week before my 54th birthday. Over one year later, I can say it was the best, most rewarding decision I've ever made. No regrets. GO FOR IT!!!!!!!!

I became a nurse at 35 years old and have no regrets. If your heart is in it and you have the perseverance go for it.

Hello Firstina, have you looked into accelerated BSN programs? These programs focus on the core nursing courses (no electives, humanities, or fluff courses) and you can earn a BSN in a little over a year. They require that you have a previous Bachelor's degree, which, as a biochemist, I'm guessing you do.

Let's see...I'm currently 55 years old, entered a VN program (for the second time - failed out once) at 52, completed same at age 54. When I finished I was the oldest one in my cohort, and the average age of the students works out to about 34. So, yeah, I'd say you're good. :-)

I'm a 33yo former banker, and I just finished my entry level MSN 2 months ago. I had 6 job offers before I started my last semester, which is amazing considering I only applied for operating room circulating jobs.... Never too late to change your life! Plus, we have experience and perspective that younger nurses don't have!

Specializes in Oncology, Medicine.

Started working slowly toward ADN at 28, first RN job at 34, enrolled in BSN this semester at 39. Work and life experiences are a definite advantage in this field, so go for it! Best of luck.

I am going back at 54. I think I can work at least 10-15 more years. I've wanted to do it for 30 years, but I've been raising kids. You can do anything you put your mind to.

Specializes in OR Hearts 10.

I was 44 when I graduated from nursing school. I'm 59 now. I would still be 59 if I hadn't gone to nursing school. Good luck in your new adventure.

Specializes in ER - trauma/cardiac/burns. IV start spec.

Started school at 38 with 4 kids, began working at 40. I wish I had gone into nursing sooner.
