For those who are starting in sept, Were you assigned summer reading? We went to orientation last week, and were handed a list with 1200.00 worth of books on it,(to be gotten before school begins) and were also assigned about 1200 pages of summer reading...... WHEW!!!!!! alot to read!

anyone else experiencing this?

Specializes in Med Surg, Post partum, peds, newborn nur.

No summer reading here. I am glad, because I wouldn't have had time with all the summer classes I have been taking.

I had to pay $170 for 2 uniforms and a lab coat. I also had to get a physical and all my shots up to date, but I didn't have to get a dental exam.

I use half.com for most of my books, but since my school has changed to the 7th edition of the book I need and I will have to buy it new, which sucks because I already have the 6th edition.

Specializes in School Nursing, Ambulatory Care, etc..

Hey Bevi!

I started classes last Tuesday - my tuition cost as much as my books! Anyway, I made the mistake of thinking I could "do my homework" on Sunday...HA HA HA!! :) Now, I'm sinking! I still have 4 chapters to read before tomorrow morning!!

Good Luck to you!

HI SARAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm so happy to hear you've begun....... i feel your pain about books!!!!!! Good luck and i hope we talk soon!!!!

Bevi

1200 dollars are you serious??? Im starting nu3 this fall and all i need to get for books is maternity. Sista- girl lemme tell ya somethin, they want you and all the other nursing students to purchase all of the book in one shot cuz they want your money!!

They know that there is such a high drop out rate that most people in the first semester wont make it and the books are considered used so they make a profit if you try to sell them back

If you have your syllabus, buy the books you need for that semester, girl. I would never, drop that much cash on books at one time.

Sista, you neverknow if semester 3 they will require the updated edition... then what? just get what you need for your first semester... trust me

good luck to you

happy:D

just curious but what are the books that they want you to read and do you get aid or a scholarship to help you pay for them.

these are the books for summer readings:

Fundamentals of Nursing (assorted chapters)

Critical thinking for Nurses (assorted chapters)

Calculating with Confidence (assorted chapters)

These three were nearly 200.00

i still have 8 more to buy

i got a grant that helps pay for school, and if there's anything left, i get it, that will only be a bit..... but it'll help, but that's not til Nov. :stone

If the books are any indication, what a ride this is going to be!
