My school is Unaccredited

Hi guys.. I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me and give some information. Before you reply yes I know how terrible it is to go to an unaccredited school. Before applying to my school I had been lied to about it being accredited by a couple advisers and at the time I was not knowledgeable enough about what accreditation truly means nor did I have anyone to guide me. Either way I am graduating in may with an ASN degree and will be able to sit for NCLEX have my RN license and need options.. I know most hospitals won't hire you if you come from an unaccredited school. What should I do? I have also been looking into schools I can transfer to that will accept me so I can graduate with a BSN from an actually accredited school. Does anyone have similar experience? Also does anyone know schools I can transfer to that would take me in South FL or NJ-NYC area?? Please help!

Have you checked with your state's BON to see if you're eligible to sit for NCLEX?

I was under the impression one must graduate from an accredited school to be eligible to sit.

yes in the state of florida you do not need ACEN in order to sit for NCLEX.

But the program does have to be approved by the board of nursing. Have you verified with the board of nursing that this program is approved by them (and not going off the word of the program)?

Another thing to consider is that you may not be able to obtain a RN license in another state (by endorsement) if they require you to have completed your education at an accredited school. How far are you into this program? Have you considered transferring to a school that has an accredited program?

You can..somehow...sit for a nationally standardized test...even if the school isn't nationally accredited..for a license that won't be nationally valid anyway...none of it makes sense.

Anyhow I would have to imagine that you would have to look into schools within your state and see what they will and will not accept. Going to another state I would think would make it harder, especially NY we have some tough education requirements. I would also look into getting a refund if you were lied to.

yes I know that's why I'm looking into getting a BSN from an accredited program.

I have done my research on this and yes I can.

Yes I have figured this out that is why I am asking advise. I am too late in this program to transfer I have one semester left. I am trying to get into a BSN program that would take me that is accredited

Some states only go by the first school you got your nursing education in. They will want to know that your initial nursing education came from an accredited school. The only way to know about getting into an accredited BSN program after you complete the program you are in now is to look at the requirements for those school and speak to their admission advisers. Will you have a degree when you finish the program you are in?

Yes when I finish this program I will have an ASN degree and a RN license & either way I would still like to have my BSN I am just going to make sure the school I go to is accredited this time. I am researching on schools that would accept me Do you by any chance know if NJ or NY require my initial education to be accredited ? Because I am really trying to move there once I have things in order. How can I find this out? thank you for your fast response.

I've never been licensed in NY or NJ, so I'm not sure of their requirements. You should be able to find that information on their board of nursing websites or by contacting their board of nursing directly.
