Low GPA where to go from here

Hey guys,

My name is Steve and I have just graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park with a Bachelors of Science in Biology. I have decided that I wish to purse a career in nursing. I am looking into Accelerated BSN and Second Degree BSN programs, however I am concerned that my GPA may be too low. I am a male with a 2.62 GPA, however I was on the wrestling team at Maryland so a bunch of my time was tied up in athletics with traveling and practices. I also have some clinical experience as I was a nurse's aide for two summers in the Emergency Department, and I was a surgical intern in the Operating Room for another summer. What are my chances of being accepted to one of these programs, or any other options, or advice anyone has. I am extremely confused and stressed out about what to do next so all help would be greatly appreciated!

Retake some of the nursing pre-requisites, that will help you raise the GPA. I don't know about your area, but most schools only look at the GPA for the required courses. Do not feel discouraged, you can do it. You can also call the nursing school of your choise and speak to them about your situation. Most of them are helpful, they will be able to direct you in the right path. Good Luck
