hello,

i just discovered this site last week during a web search for one of my classes. i have just been reading and thought i would introduce myself.

i am a 49 year old bsn student, in an accelerated program for 2nd degree students. my original degree is a bs in education with an emphasis on history, psychology, and sociology.

i have a husband of 25 years, 3 children (boy - 19; girl - 15; girl - 12), and have lived in indiana for 12 years. we moved from northern virginia (my home) to find a better place to raise the children.

i decided to return to school three years ago, but it was all put on hold for a year due to major medical problems - some of which continue to today, but i'm doing school anyway.

i am in a new accelerated bsn program at iu school of nursing. there are 20 of us "guinea pigs" and it is brutal. we are in our second summer session and this fall we will be taking junior and senior level courses. we should get our degrees in december 2003 - if we all survive. we've been in clinics last session; this thursday we start our in hospital clinicals. that is nerve wracking!

after i complete my bsn, i am going to take pre reqs for my msn in family nurse practitioning. i hope to begin when i have my 1 to 2 years of practice in. it's as close as i can get to a medical degree at my age - which was my original major in college. just took me a while to discover that i really wanted to return to the health care field.

hope i can be an encouragement to others. i know with our program, i can use all the encouragement i can get.

thanks for the site,

maryalex

Hello all--

My name is Susan, and I am 27. I'll be starting the last two years of a BSN program this August, at University of Texas at Arlington.

No husband, no kids. Unless you count my cat. Although right now I'm desperately trying to find a home for him.

Anyone in the Dallas area want a really wonderful cat?

Unfortunately, I can't take him with me to school. I'm going to be living in on campus housing and they don't allow pets. I'm trying to convince my dad to take him, but so far no luck.

We have orientation on the 12th and 13th, then we start on the 26th.

Welcome to all of the newbies, this is a great site for support.

Hi,

My name is Fatima. I'm a 29 yr. old wife and mother to 3 children. I am also expecting my fourth and last child on January 9th...:) I will be starting my 1st semester in in the Fall at my community college. I am very excited!!!! I know it's going to be hard but I'm glad that I got accepted. I won't attend my 2nd semester in the Spring due to the fact that I will have the baby. I plan to return in the Fall of 2003 to take Micobiology or A&P 2 and then resume my 2nd semester nursing course in the Spring of 2004 (it's too bad Nursing 108 only comes around in the spring...lol. Other than that things are okay. We just moved into our new home last Saturday...and I finally got things in order...lol.

Hi everyone! I am 32, married 9 years, and have three daughters, ages 8,5,and 2. I am finishing up my last 4 prereq classes at a CC, then going to transfer to a university to complete my RN. As from my earlier posts, I am terrifed of this! I absolutely LOVE going to school, but I worry about EVERYTHING, and will probably have a nervous breakdown before this is over. I would love to eventually love to work in maternity/labor & delivery. And I just want to thank everyone for being so nice here - since I analyze everything about this whole school thing, I feel like I ask alot of questions! But you guys always make me feel better!:D

Specializes in LDRP.

Hi! I am also a newbie around here.

I am 29, a mother of two and have just started a part time job as a unit secretary in an ICU/PCU unit. I am taking prereqs and classes for the ADN program and have been accepted into an LPN program as well, and I am still kinda wondering how I will end up doing this education thing. My goal is to get my ADN and go from there. I want to work in obstetrics and at some point teach childbirth education classes.

Anyway, I am excited about school! Glad to have found this board!

:DSee ya around...

My name is Starr. I am 39 yr old, married with 4 kids and currently working 12hr shifts in LTC as a LPN. I am possibly starting the RN program this fall. I am so tired from taking prerequisites this year. I may decide to start in January instead.

Hello everyone!!! My name is Kat and I am in my third and final year of nursing. I'm 20 and started the course straight out of high school, which is the norm here in Melbourne, Australia. I hope to work in a+e when I graduate this November. I've just been reading up until now and I love the site so I thought I'd jump on in. Got a boyfriend and two pet dogs.
