Kicked out of nursing school, I don't know what to do now

  1. I just found out I got kicked out of the nursing program at hunter. I was a sophomore with two years left to go. I really don't know what my options are right now. Hunter has ruined my gpa and I've heard that no other CUNY schools will accept me now that I've been kicked out from a CUNY school but I don't really know if that is true. My gpa is a 3.07 right now. I'm considering switching over to LaGuardia or queensboro for their associatr RN program but I've heard it's really competitive and will only take 4.0 gpa. I've taken all my pre-reqs and my grades stand at;
    PSYCH 100 & 150: A
    ENG 120 & 220: B
    Sociology 100: A+
    statistics 113: B
    anatomy 1: D
    anatomy 2: B
Will LaGuardia or queensboro take me with a D in anatomy 1 or can I retake the course for a second chance? I also have nursing course credits as well but I don't know if other schools will accept them. I'm just really depressed now and I really don't know what to do with my life right now or what the next step will be.

Were you already in the nursing program or just pre-reqs? It's going to be very hard for any CUNYs to take you back as they're all competitive due to being cheap. The best case scenario is private colleges like Mercy or Adelphi or Mt. St. Mary though I don't know about their policies on accepting students that were kicked out of school. If those are too expensive, maybe try LPN school and work as an LPN and then become a BSN?

Were you already in nursing school? Most nursing schools in my area require a C or above in all science classes to even be considered for the nursing program. Maybe look into taking Anatomy 1 again and bring that grade up.

I was already in the nursing program in my second year when I got kicked out for not passing pharmacology with a C. Will any community colleges take me in with my prerequisites?

Do you mean like a regular community college or a community college with a nursing program? If it's a community college with a nursing program, they might? But I'd say it's unlikely because they'll see on your transcript that you have been kicked out of a nursing school once and there's also a D from Anatomy. In a city like NYC, everything is so competitive so honestly I would recommend calling the schools you want to get into and see if they would take you in with your pre-requisites as every school is different.

The only way to know is to talk to them. Nursing programs at community colleges near me are EXTREMELY competitive. Most people with a 3.07 GPA are not accepted. And like I said early, most nursing schools require a C or higher in pre-reqs to even be considered. The Anatomy grade is going to be your biggest obstacle.

I dont know of any nursing program that will take less than a C in a prerequisite class.

Are you in good standing at the present school, despite the dismissal from the nursing program, i.e., you were not placed on academic probation? Can't think of ever encountering a school that did not require one to be in good standing at the previous school as part of the admission requirements. I would think that less than a C in the pharm class alone would not put you on academic probation with the school.

I am not on academic probation or anything at the school. I have just been kicked out of the nursing program at the school Bc I received less than a C in one of the nursing courses. I don't know what my options are now. Will any other schools accept me for nursing RN?

Talk to the nursing advisors at other nursing programs. They are the ones who are able to provide the answers you need. What you do now is to do the legwork required to find a new program. Take for granted that you will probably have to relocate in the process.

I know Lehman will not take you. It even states in their application that students previously failed out of other nursing programs cannot be admitted. And yes, you HAVE to retake your D course - it is just common sense.

Try private schools; they only care about your money.

You keep rumbling. Let me ask you, did you fail only one course? If so, can you retake it?

Can you retake A&P 1 to strengthen your transfer application?
