I am looking for advice about weight loss programs, weight loss ideas, meal & snack ideas...basically anything you can offer that will help me as I try to get started on losing some weight. I will be finished with nursing school in the spring (about 8 months away), and would love to be a lot smaller at my graduation!!!

Thanks for your help!!!

For me, nutrition is the hardest part. Working out is easy - as long as I get my butt to the gym, the hardest part of the battle is basically 90% done. Now making sure I eat clean all the time...that is my killer.

Start packing lunches, bringing healthy snacks (apples, luna bars, bananas, fruits or veggies you get the idea)

Record lectures and put them on your ipod and go walking while listening to them so you can't say no time to study and work out. Drink lots of water. It all comes down to calories in and calories out.

Good luck with it all, I am in the same boat except I don't graduate until Mary 2011 but I want to lose all the weight I need to by then, I want to start my nursing career off on the right foot and set a good example for my patients, the whole practice what you preach thing. I quit smoking years ago. I can see how tough it is though, where we are doing clinicals unless you bring your lunch they only have vending machines with soda and junk food so if you forget your lunch then your options are limited. I don't care change on me those days though so I avoid temptation.

Don't do it all the time, allow yourself a splurge or treat once a week, it won't hurt you and will make a good diet easier to stick to.

Yeah - the "Nursing School Diet and Exercise Program" is not the best way to loose weight - in fact, I put ON almost 10 pounds just doing my pre-req classes. Mi Vida offered some really great advice about packing lunch and healthy snacks. I'd also add that I can pretty much guarantee that you are not the only one struggling with this, and one of the most helpful things that I've done is to find a partner at school (actually there's a small group of us). We keep each other accountable and enthusiastic - do a "healthy pot luck lunch" share recipe ideas, etc - and walk together as a group during breaks, etc. This is only the 4th week of classes for us and I've already lost 4 of those pesky pounds. Friends are amazing things! :wink2:

Haha...oh trust me, I have my share of "cheat" days.

Weight Watchers! Seriously, I used to think "yeah right", however I am 45lbs lighter thanks to them. And I only was "officially" on the program for 1 month (as in going to meeting, etc), but I stuck to the eating and there you go :)

Is this an online community? Anyone know or have a link to this? I'm struggling with my weight too, has anyone ever had success with an online support group? I think I could benefit from some accountability to keep from falling off the wagon again!

it's sparkspeople.com or sparkpeople.com can't remember which one, and yes it's a community thing and also you can do a daily food log and stuff, it's a pretty cool site and it's free.
