Hi Love-A-Nurse!

Thank you for your prayers-that means so much to me because I take those words literally and every one we get helps. I like most areas of nursing but my love is for oncology. I took care of oncology and (and pt.'s with AIDS, Hep., as well as other issues) for 8 years and met amazing people-some still with us and some not. Nursing is one of THE most honorable professions and I wanted to be a part of that sister/brotherhood.

Hi! I'm Jenny, 33 yrs old, mother of 2 -- 5 yr old & 8 yr old.

In the ADN program, 1st semester.

Looking forward to making some new friends here!

Hi "Love a Nurse"! -- (I have that on my front license plate!!)

Actually, I really like nursing school. It is really tough & at times feels like it's kicking my a--! but, I know this is what I want to do & I really like it! I get to observe in the ER next week, so I'm really looking forward to that! I don't have my CNA or LPN, so this is all pretty new to me. How is your semester going?

Take care!

Greetings! My name is Lisa. I am 30-years-old. I have been married for 11-years and have 2 beautiful, wonderful children (9-year-old daughter & 1-year-old son)! I am currently enrolled in my first semester of a 2-year ADN program and I am taking Fundamentals of Nursing and Pharmacology. Nursing is always something thats been in my heart. I have a great love for people and a genuine desire to help and care for others! I'm not really sure what field of nursing I want to work in when I finish school but I was leaning towards OB or OR (I'm also a surgical tech)!:roll

:) hi lisa, my name is lisa also. I am 28-years-old, and I'm enrolled in a 2-year ADN program and I will be taking Fundamentals of Nursing and Pharmacology Summer 2003. I am currently working in the Operating Room as a surgical tech.:roll

jen, i started as a nursing assistant, i am an lpn and rn school presents new things that i didn't know, certain procedures, etc, i can't do as an lpn and the learning will not stop.

thanks for asking, this semester is in high gear but the experience is wonderful!

much continued success to you!

Hi everyone,

I have been reading these boards for a few months now - what a wealth of information! Anyway, I am Rebecca, nearly 34 years old. No kids, no feller (not anymore!)

I decided while I have this opportunity to be single again I would go back and get my degree in nursing. I previously (umm...12 years or so ago?) did half of my registered nurse training (hospital based) but dropped out to become an enrolled nurse - the equivalent of your LPN, I think. I only worked for a year afterwards as an EN though, so I have been out of nursing for a long while now. Oh yes, I guess I should say I am from Australia :-)

Anywhoooo - I have just started as of 3rd of March at university. Whahoo! And I am overwhelmed with work already LOL. I got lucky and was admitted straight into the second year of the degree. It takes three years to get your BSN here, but because I have a previous degree (Bachelor of Arts) I was granted credit for the first year. Funnily enough, my previous nursing experience counted for nothing! Oh well, matters not - I'm in!

I have a great friend who lives in Missouri. We had a wonderful idea of me going over to the US to study for my degree - there was just one little problem - it is waaaay too expensive! I realise how lucky I am - I think all up it will cost me about $4500 to get this degree (less than $US2250 roughly). And that money is paid to the government and can be deferred until after I graduate. Uni fees are only a couple of hundred per year. Still, I would have loved to have gone to the states to study - oh and hang out with my best friend . Actually, it's probably good that I had to stay here - I might have had way too much fun in Missouri and wound up paying for a degree I didn't get LOL.

Mind you, it looks like Aussie nurses earn about half what US nurses do - so I guess there is a downside to everything.

I am very interested in working in NICU when I graduate. It has long been an ambition of mine, but I am keeping my eyes open and exploring other areas too - I think that is half the fun of nursing, so many options and specialties to work in. And besides, I might hate working NICU (I doubt it though!), so want some firm ideas of other areas I might transfer to if that is the case.

Guess I have rabbited on enough. I love reading everyone elses posts, its so fascinating to hear about everybody's histories and current lives. Anyone interested in chatting with a slightly deranged and study-drunk Aussie - feel free!
