I hates the waffle house

Of all the ways to keep earning a living while working your way through nursing school, I've found the worst - Grill Operator at Waffle House.

My job is to do the best I can under impossible odds, under the intense scrutiny of on unforgiving public, while my overstressed coworkers shriek at me every time I fail to keep up with impossible demands. The only reason why I keep working is I think it's probably preparing me for my first year of nursing.

If you've got a worse job holding you over until graduation, feel free to share.

The only thing I can think of that would be worse is a job where I have to chop off an arm every day. But that wouldn't really be worse, because after one weekend I could retire.

I'm not doing these now but, while a student, I have:

1) Worked for a mortuary picking up bodies. Often yucky, often emotional, often backbreaking, sometimes creepy.

2) Lugged 60 lb bags of ice up the sides of hills to individual campsites for an exclusive club of the rich and powerful elite.

Yup, I think it's going to prepare you very well for nursing. :lol2:

I wish I had something better. For now I'm just a mom. I got a call to do patient registration @ a local hospital part time but the hours are weird and I have 3 kids so I think I will have to turn it down.

To All Waffle House Employees - Thank You From my Daughter???

Don't worry, haven't lost my mind, but I'm pretty sure my daughters deployment in Iraq has made irrevocable changes in the functioning of her brain. What proof do I have? I have indisputable proof! When she came home for her 2 weeks of R&R, what was the first thing she said - "I can't wait to go to the 'Waffle House' it's like little squares of heaven sent to earth from God." See, didn't I tell you I had proof. Talk about traumatic head injury!!! No one told me she had one, but how else can this be explained!

Have a Great Day Everyone, We never know how the things we do really affect others and thereby affect the world.

Pre-nursing school I had the following jobs:

1. OTR truck driver

2. Pizza delivery

3. "Removal Technician" (removed bodies from homes, hospitals, coroners office, etc)

4. Fast food worker at a greasy mexican resaurant.

All did a great job of preparing me for nursing, don'tcha think? LOL
