Well, here I am again! I have been invited to start clinicals this Fall 02. I am super excited, but terrified. I haven't had A&P for quite awhile. Any suggestions on how to prepare for my Aug 26th start date? Thanks a bunch!

Hi mlfoley..

When did you take A&P?? Are you in nursing school already or just starting clinicals with your classes int he fall??....I don't understand how you'll be doing clinicals before having had passed the skills in Lab.....If you have had Lab already or will be taking it in the fall along with the clinicals....No problem, the Lab instructor will check you off before you perform them on clients...

Not that you don't know how to shower or give a bed bath to an elderly person or empty bedpans or wipe some serious booty (that's usually what you start doing anyway)

Anyway, the facility wants to make sure you know how to do it...

I hope this helped.....let me know

Sandy

Have you been taking nursing classes? We didn't start clinicals until we had classes for a while. When we first started clinicals, it was at a nursing home. We did basic stuff like vital signs, baths, bedmaking, etc. We were at the nursing home for about 6 weeks, then we started clinicals at a hospital 1 time a week. This semester we have clinicals 2 times a week for 6 hours a day, and nursing classes 2 days a week.

welcome and congratulations on being accepted!

Thank you to all.....I finished all my pre-req courses long ago, had 2 children, and enrolled again. I will only be taking clinicals and lecture, of course, towards my RN. Just not sure how to handle the time lapse since my last A&P, other than study over the summer. Thanks again!!

how long does it take to be an RN, if you are a lpn? In Canada, you can only be BN. that takes 4 years and to long for me.

You could refresh your memory with A&P software or a coloring book. p911medic, if you're already an lpn it takes about another year to become an rn.

You will be just fine!! I would buy a refresher book or study guide (you can prob get them from your school's bookstore). When you pass meds and things, you will need to know how they work, but a PDR can tell you all of that. Make up note cards for all of your patient's meds. It will help you tremendously!! :rotfl:

Good luck!
