The wonderful thing about nursing is that it is open to everyone of all ages. Please give a cheer to all the people who believe that age is not a factor in learning. And, to all the people who strive for knowledge regardless of age. How old were you when you started nursing school?

Specializes in LTC, CPR instructor, First aid instructor..

i was 54, and it was a second career choice, although I was a nurses aide for a couple years when afterI graduated high school. i loved the job, but wasn't able to go into nursing then. higher education loans were not as available as they are now back then. I also was a volunteer EMT for 18 years, plus a First Aid and CPR instructor. I had also been a school bus driver for 15 years prior to that.

21! I'm 22 now and will be 23 when I graduate. It sucked at first because all of my friends that I went to high school with were graduating from college, and I felt like I was just getting started. Now that I'm almost at the end I feel like it was worth it and I would do it all over again even if it took me a little longer to get to this point than most people.

I graduated at 42 with an ADN (this was my second associates degree-the other one was from The Fashion Institute of Technology). I am about to turn 57 and will complete my BSN in a few months. I am presently researching MSN programs. :bookworm:

Specializes in Critical Care, ER, Cath lab.

Started my ASN at 26 while still on the fire department. Graduated at 28. Now I'm 29 and working on my RN-BSN. Should finish the summer after I turn 30. Then it's off to CRNA school! I want to get it all done now while the family is young and my wife can stay home with the kids the way she wants to.

I came out of high school with the intent on becoming a nurse. Got all my basics and pre-reqs out of the way. Got accepted into the nursing program in 2005. Got through first semester, and failed adult nursing in my second semester. Being the stubborn person I am, I decided to switch majors. Got my bachelor in businesss management in 2009.

I turned 30 this past year, and I had somewhat of a quarter life crisis. I thought about the regret of not trying again and just switching majors. I decided then I would apply to the program again. This was in October 2016. I couldn't apply until the spring for a fall 2017 start. The state of Alabama changed the admission requirements the fall of 2016 to using the ACT among other things to get accepted into the program. Luckily, all my classes and act didn't have to be taken again. There is no expiration date. I thought the stars were aligning.

Alas, I will be 31 when I attempt this nursing thing again. I'm nervous about failing again because I don't know what I'll do if I don't succeed. But I'm also excited for my future for the first time in a long time.
