I am taking an online peds pharm class and it does not have a text that accompanies it. It has power points and some websites that are given. One of our questions is "How do you know which drugs to double check for pediatric patients?" Most of the threads on allnurses.com say that all drugs for peds should be double checked. As I have not had peds rotation yet (second half of this semester), what would be the correct answer? Thanks!!!

That's not a bad suggestion and probably the standard for peds hospitals. As med doses are generally weight based, it would be crucial to double check safe dosages for our younger population. Have fun in your peds rotation.

In our peds rotation we have a book with the drugs and their weight based calculations

In peds we had to double check everything. Even OTC meds.

When I did my peds rotation, we couldn't give a med until we were checked by our instructor. She was making certain that no peds patient suffered a med error from us. I totally agree with what she did and with the saying that all peds dosages should be double or triple-checked. JMO
