Help with vaccines for school please...

Hello everyone and thanks in advance...

i have about 45 days to get my vaccines together but am confused on the info in regards to the 2 step PPD and MMR plus Virucella vaccines being administered together..online people say you can't and the clinic I'm going to is saying I can do them at the same time but from reading online it says that if you take MMR or Virucella with the first PPD the results could be false and you will have to wait for like 30 days before you can do the PPD again which I can't afford to mess up on.

Here is what I need.

2 step PPD

MMR

Virucella

Hep B

Tdap

Hep C? I don't even know why they have this listed..

What should I do it's driving me crazy no on has a answer for me so that's why I joined the sight and hopefully the knowledge on this forum can help me out...

Scenarios:

1. I take 2 step PPD, MMR, Virucella, Hep B, Tdap all in one day as my clinic is saying to do and their will be no problems or...should I?

2. Take 2 step PPD wait the week get the second....then get 1st set of MMR, Virucella together and then wait 28 days for the second sets of these?

Also if anyone can let me know where and when I can squeeze in the Tdap, and Hep B. Can I do these if I go with scenario 2 can I do them with the 2 step PPD or do them with MMR and Virucella; will they interfere with MMR, or Virucella? I'm kind of lost hope I am clear in what I am asking here...

Thank you to anyone who has read my thread in its entirety to help me out...please help...

Thanks for your great answers, I actually just got off the phone with a nurse who is a friend and a neighbor and she was kind of unaware of the MMR and Virucella being taken with the PPD but also said they can may be done together so that's why I also wanted to check here and it is the reason I am confused about this cause...the clinic I spoke with today also said I can do them at the same time I will probably just wait since I have a little time I guess just to be safe and not have to wait a additional four weeks to do PPD which will not work for me...

So I am doing the PPD tomorrow since I will not do the Virucella and MMR since a false neg could pop up since people have actually had this happen when taken together..do you know if it will be ok to at least get the Hep B rolling and Tdap done tomorrow with the 1st PPD...cause I would love to get those done if I can...

Thanks for being a good impression of this website!

If you are still young and born and raised in the U.S you would already have all those vaccinations. So you could just get the Qauntiferon Gold and the rest of your titers for MMR, Varicella, Hep B (skin test), and then get the T-dap. If you could go this route then you could get it done in all in one day and get the results back within a week.

So I think you are confused on how this maybe works if you live in the U.S and you should really speak with a representative from your school to get this all straighten out, considering that they listed Hep C as a vaccination requirement.... I think something fishy is going on.

Sounds like your confused read the above post sounds like you didn't read anything I have to do the PPD it's mandatory before moving forward...if you want to answer just try to read what I was asking...also how can you assume everyone takes vaccines you should know by now there has been many people who are against vaccines that's why laws were passed recently to push everyone to get vaccines maybe you should check with the lawmakers before a fling like you know it all and come off rude just answer the question if you can't then why even reply you missed the whole point with your first sentence ha.

Hey,

I am going to do my 2 step PPD shots and have decided to hold off on live vaccines like MMR and Virucella which can cause a false negative but will need after the PPD...

My question is I looked around and know that Tdap can be taken the same day right since it's inactive what I really want to is if I can also take my Hep B with the PPD for nursing school??? Can a Hep B or Tdap interfere and cause a false positive or am I good and should I take these too? Just real answers please yes or no.

thank you

You can get your PPD with any vaccine (live or inactivated) in the same visit. There is no 'false positive' TB from any organism other than the TB bacillus.

Where did you get this 'false positive' information?

There are many nursing programs that are still requiring the 2 step PPD, even though there is a more accurate and convenient test available, it will simply NOT be accepted by the school. Stupid, but so are many of the rules in nursing school. Additionally, even if you have had Hep vaccination series previously, those schools will require a titre. And since a decent percent of the population, after immunization, doesn't show a positive titre, the school will require re-immunization. I wasn't ever immunized for Hep B. I go the immunizations, waited the appropriate time, plus a week, and got the titre- it was negative. School demanded I take the series again, my doctor threw a fit, didn't matter. Second series, second titre, still negative. School wanted me to do a third series. My doctor wrote a pretty nasty letter to the Dean, health services, and the Student Services Coordinator from the hospital that my doctor is affiliated with, along with links to several studies debunking the need for this. I'm pretty sure the Dean backed off ONLY because many of our clinicals were done at that hospital. It's crazy that we're trained in EBP, but it isn't applied to us.

This makes absolutely no sense, as anyone who has had the BCG vaccination (as most people brought up outside the USA have) can't have the PPD test, as it'll show a false positive. Any school that doesn't instead accept the blood test is just asking to be sued for discrimination against immigrants.

BTW not that I advocate lying but anyone having problems getting their PPD done on time COULD say they think they might have had the BCG in their childhood?!?!

Someone in my cohort did test positive for that reason. She was required to do the treatment regimen. 9 months of ABX, if I'm remembering correctly. But at o in nursing school, it's their way or the highway- science be damned.

So your cohort member had a BCG vaccine administered when he/she was younger, took the PPD, tested positive, and needed to go on isoniazid. Wow lol. I'm surprised your school made her go on antibiotics. She should have done the chest x-ray to confirm that she was ever even exposed in the first place (but her ppd will always be positive because of the BCG).

Plus your school should know that anyone who previously tested positive using PPD test, should never get another PPD skin test because the reaction that you get becomes stronger each time. That's why a 2-step should never be required. Quantiferon or a chest x-ray should be just as sufficient in meeting requirements.

However, if that's how your school works that not on you that's on them. I'm just surprised.

And yes, also had the x-ray. Still required to do the treatment.
