HELP - Studying w/ ADHD

Published

The 2nd day after I started my nursing classes, I was diagnosis w/ ADHD. Dr. put me on Stratterra. Finally, I was going to be OK

I took 18 mgs. for 4 days & I really noticed a difference. But, day 5, went to 25 mgs & noticed I was back to my old self. After 3 weeks w/ still no change, I called the dr. Monday. & they increased to 1 cap. 2xs a day. So yesterday I took one at 7:30 am & another at 12:30 pm. By 2:00 I was like  Speed Racer. I couldn't sit still. My hands were going a mile a mintues & I couldn't study or concentrate. I had an A&P test that night & a nursing test the next day. Needless to say, I couldn't take my A&P test and by 7:30 pm, I started to come down. Well, my body was soooo tired, I couldn't study for my nursing test.

Called my nursing instructor to tell her what was going on. And, my doctor wasn't in. The nurse told me to take my med. at one time. Well, I don't feel as bad, but I am still distracted & cannot read a page w/out looking up 4 or 5 times. WHAT SHOULD I DO?

HELP:confused:

Wish I had some good concrete advise but all I can say is ahng in there, talk to you doc and try doing a search on this site for ADD and ADHD. It has come up and some of the people around here have a lot of personnal experiance. I have a wife and son that both have it.

jenn, I found this website a few days ago, it has so tips in it, hope it helps! Theres a section under studying that's for ADHD

Did you feel better on just 18mgs. per day? Maybe you should try going back to that dosage. I have ADHD, too; I take Dexedrine for it. I've never tried Stratterra, but have heard some pretty mixed things about it. When you're first getting treated for ADHD it takes some playing around with dosage and even different meds before you find the right combo. If you feel the Stratterra isn't helping, there are different meds to try. Hope this helps a little.

I hit that website. Thanks!

The lower dosage did work, but only for a couple of days.

Oh, as I am writing this, the Dr. called & told me not to take it anymore. I go back to see him on the 6th. Maybe we will try something else.

Guess it's back to the old drawing board.
