Random update. It looks like my patho teacher curved the grades for our test and my grade went up to a 90. I'm not sure how to feel about that, but she's new this year and I guess it is what it is.

I got to learn phlebotomy yesterday, a semester early! It's for one of the clinics I'm volunteering at - they need nursing student volunteers to be able to draw blood for tests, so now I'm all checked off!

Concepts exam tomorrow, which I've not spent any time studying yet - so you can guess what I'll be doing all day.

Had clinical yesterday, was great. I'm working with spinal cord injury patients so I'm getting lots of awesome patients and great experience in all sorts of different things. The nurses on that unit are all so eager to teach and show us new things.

I am glad the rounding was in your favor. I am not sure how I would feel about that myself like you said, but perhaps your instructor looked over the exam and decided that some of the questions were not "fair".

I hope I can find a volunteer experience like that in California! I am nervous about having to do clinicals one day and would love to be able to get extra practice in (all pending on when I get accepted to a program now haha).

Keep working hard Jen! Wishing you the best!!

Thanks! All the volunteering I do is through my school. They run the refugee clinic and the newish pride clinic. I'm really fortunate to have these amazing opportunities.

Another week in the books! It's weird to think we're almost half way done with this semester. I'm maintaining my A's, but we'll see how much longer I can keep that up. Midterms are looming.

I had a test in Concepts yesterday, waiting on the grade for it. We do catheters on Monday, which I'm excited about.

I was "elected" social event chair for the student government - I use quotation marks because I ran unopposed ;)

Contemplating a two year commitment to an undergrad research project. It would be such an great opportunity, but I don't want to overextend myself. Applications aren't due until April, so I have some time to work it out.

Continuing to hijack Jen's thread occasionally with my own good news. :)

I took three tests today - including my first of two dreaded math tests! We have to get 100%, and just knowing that was freaking me out. I have worked so hard on dimensional analysis because math doesn't come easily to me AND I DID IT!!!

The other tests went very well, too, so I only have one more test to do before clinicals start, putting me in good shape.

I did 2 research projects - one for chemistry and one in nursing. Both very rewarding in and of themselves, but they also opened a lot of doors for me to further my nursing career. If you don't do the research for credit, you have more leniency with your time/schedule. It's something I recommend and will help you when you have to do your capstone.

Hey everyone! I hope your semesters are going well. Everyone should be nearing a much deserved break hopefully.

I just wanted to share some good news of my own. I applied for my school's ADN program late January and was invited to take the TEAS test at my school for free (they invite 120 students with the highest science GPA). It is a great sign to be invited, but my school accepts the first score only. I took it May 4th and got a 92%. While I am excited, it was definitely a rather nerve wracking and humbling experience only having one chance at this. I do not want to count my chickens before my eggs hatch, but based off of the points I have for everything, I have a very strong chance of being invited to the program in mid-June to begin Fall 2018.

Once I finish up this semester and hear back, I hope everyone would be so kind as to provide any tips on how they managed to get through their first semester! Best wishes everyone!

That's great! Congratulations!

I finished up my first semester last week. My suggestion would be to really stay on top of things. We didn't have much in the way of homework or busy work - lots of time to review the material over and over.

What classes are in your first semester?

I'm taking pharm, OB, Psych and Research next semester. I'm pretty excited. I also got a job as a Nurse Extern and I start orientation next week. Still plugging along at the Refugee Clinic and I also volunteer at the PRIDE Clinic run by my school. I leave in 2.5 weeks for a medical missionary trip to Guatemala which I'm super excited about. Hanging in there!

Thank you and congratulations as well!

I will definitely listen to your advice about keeping on top of everything. Thank you! I have another few weeks before the end of the semester. I'm hoping to sit down with a friend coming out of her first semester at my school and asking her about her experience. I have had the chance to check in with her periodically and I know that she said it was tough.

I believe my first semester will focus on Foundations of Nursing (professional, legal, ethical responsibilities, etc.) with clinical/lab according to the enrollment manual online.

Everything you have going on is so awesome and honestly inspiring. I will definitely be looking around for volunteer opportunities as much as possible. If I can't find any, I think I could try to organize various things.

Keep us updated on how everything is going!

I finished up last week, too, and I'm just hanging out and relaxing until my summer pharmacology class starts In three weeks. It feels so great to do almost nothing! :) My semester went really well, and I loved everything about it.

I echo Jen's advice - stay ahead of the game and you'll be so much happier! Our theory instructors told us this constantly. Our clinical instructor said the same thing in the hospital about patient care. It's really all about prioritizing regardless of the situation.

Also, review, review, review! Even doing an NCLEX question a day is super-helpful. Little bits of information will stick and you'll remember them randomly and wonder where they came from!

Good luck!
