Has anyone taken AP I and II at the same time?

I saw in another thread about taking AP I and II together and it sounds intense but sort of like a good idea:idea: I was just curious if anyone else has done this?

At my school, A&P I was a pre-req for II so they couldn't be taken simultaneously

that is how it is at my school too

One had to be taken before the other at my school. I think it would be difficult doing them at the same time, as you will learn the basics in AP I, and go more indept in II. I would suggest doing them separate. Thats just me.

I took them together, and am so glad i did! At my school they are separate - Anatomy class and Physiology class . . Anatomy was much more memorization and physiology was more concepts. In my opinion, they really complemented eachother - Anatomy gave me a better understanding of physiology. It was definitely stressful at times having 2 labs and sometimes tests on the same days, but i was able to get As in both classes. There were about 5 other people that were in both my classes and we all studied together and kept eachother motivated. It is totally doable, and I really would recommend it because they have such similiar subject matter, I'd really think if you took them separately it would become redundant. Plus - Nursing schools like to see that you can handle taking more than one science at a time, it shows that you are able to prioritize and multitask ;)

I believe I did this in 2003-2004, but there was an option for A/P I and then A/P II, or an accelerated A/P I/II in 1 semester. I chose the accelerated version and it was VERY intense. The only reason I took it and passed it was because the professor allowed you to have a 3x5 card with as much information on 1 side as youd like. I used the computer on about size 4-5 font to pass the exams. Then both sides for the final---without that option, I wouldve definitely done ALOT worse, possibly failed. They no longer offer this option at that college. We opinion would probably be to do it in 2 semesters unless youre good at retaining ALOT of information at one time. Good luck!

My school has this same system. It irritated me to no end. I took physiology at 8am and anatomy at 9am, with the same prof in the same room, which you would think would be great for reinforcement, but was not the case. In the anatomy section we'd go into inane detail on something that would never be discussed in the physiology section even though we were covering the same organ/body/system. It made the material feel irrelevant, as we never learned more than the name of whatever it was, with no function, purpose, etc. I believe we went into so much detail in anatomy because it was the only way the professor could actually use all the class time.

By the same token, this meant all of the "conceptual" portion of the material that comes with physiology had to be squeezed into 1 semester. That meant rushing through several topics or never covering them, as well as cramming really dense things (immune system!) into a short amount of time.

While I made an A in both courses, very little of what I "learned" has stuck with me. I think other schools have it right by combining two topics that fundamentally complement each other.

I wonder if I could get cleared to take both at the same time?? I have already taken A&P(but it was from a school it wont transfer :( ) I guess it wouldn't hurt to ask....

in your case you might could get away with the exception since you've already taken it. for most a better choice is a&pi in one semester, and a&pii and micro together (i did this.)

I tried it and quickly dropped II within a few weeks. Was just way too much to have both those lectures plus labs plus other classes

At the school I went to I took API then APII in one semester. My school was on the semester system but the classes were like the quarter system. I think it depends on your background & how many hours your taking if you want to take the classes together. I already had a BS in biology degree so when I took API & ApII plus other classes (total of 13hours too) it was manageable. But, APII is API plus additional info. I would suggest talking to your professor, they have a good indication by looking at your grades and other classes to see if you can manage it. Good luck! And, I hope the info is helpful.

I took I and II in a summer semester. It was pretty intense but doable. Lots of studying!!!!:bugeyes::bugeyes:
