Has anyone bought these books?

  1. Test Success: Test-Taking Techniques for Beginning Nursing Students,
    4th Edition by Patricia Nugent
Test Question Logic for Beginning Nursing Students
    by Patricia A. Hoefler "
Successful Problem Solving & Test Taking for Beginning Nursing Students
    by Patricia A. Hoefler

Since I have heard many things about learning how to take a test in a different way, I was wondering if anyone uses (used) any of these books for practice on how to take nursing school exams or any other books that I didn't mention.

    Thanks!

I haven't bought any of those books. Our college library has an NCLEX-RN test review book and I look over the section that is relevant to the topic we're studying. That has helped me do better on tests, but I don't feel the need to buy it since I can look at it for free at the library.

I recently bought "Fundamentals Success, A Course Review Applying Critical Thinking to Test Taking" by Patricia Nugent. I highly recommend this book if you're first semester taking fundamentals. It has over 1200 nclex style questions(with rationales), also with new question formats. I started out with a B on the first exam and this book helped extremely with my next 2 exams ( i now have an A-). It covers most areas of funds.
    Good Luck!

i only had the review book offered by NLN , and it barely helped me during the test. it was very different from the actual test. however i don't think those books will help you much. those books are for nursing students, which deals a lot with critical thinking. the NCLEX exam barely has any questions like the ones you'll see on your tests in nursing school.

you have to just know basic math, science ( they have a lot of science questions ) a bit of anatomy and be good at the english section. it's goood to get those Regent's review books from the library, they do have very similar questions.

I also recommend NCLEX Made Incredibly Easy. I own it. Helps alot and 4 of my friends passed the NCLEX this spring using this as their study guide. I really enjoy thier magazines and so do my instructors. I also got several of thier other books. All are very well written and easy to understand as opposed to Lewis.

Test Success: Test-Taking Techniques for Beginning Nursing Students,
4th Edition by Patricia Nugent is actually one of my textbooks although we haven't used it all that much so far. I just started 3 weeks ago. I had bought it several months before classes started because it was recommended to me. It's actually a good book, helping me to learn how to take tests & to think critically. I've never had trouble with standardized tests but I'm rapidly learning that I'm going to need to learn all the tricks of testing if I want to pass the NCLEX, much less pass my classes.

I was required to buy the Test Success book and have barely glanced at it. If I were you, Id check your college library for any books you are unsure about and see if they are on "reserve" for students to look at. And if only 2 or so things help you, just copy those pages. Its SO much cheaper. Im kicking myself in the butt for buying books that I only needed 1 or 2 pages from, and paid around $100 for, when I could have copied those page for less than a dollar.

I am fortunate that I have a coworker who is one year ahead of me in the same program I'm in. She bought all the required books when she started and said she barely used them. She has been nice enough to let me borrow them when we have to read something from them. Sure enough, everything we've had to read from one of the "required" books wasn't even on the test.

That is why, like you, for most things now I try and see if I can find it in a book in the library.
