Freeloading Classmates....GRRR!

  1. Okay....

I have a classmate who always seems to be freeloading off of me. For a while I thought she was my friend, but now I just feel like she uses me. She uses me for rides to places, my washing machine and dryer and now recently got upset with me because I didn't want to sit on the phone and give her the answers to our homework, let alone talk on the phone when it was late because I just wanted to relax. Now she's giving me the silent treatment, but I know that'll end to next time she wants something from me. Any advice?

Enjoy the silence and hope the "next time" doesn't come.

If/when that "next time" comes around, give her the silent treatment! ... if you dont like her freeloading off of you. true friendship wouldnt do that... it would be give and take...both ways. good luck!

That's exactly how I feel......it shouldn't be one sided. Also, I'm just stickler for people asking me for answers when I spend the time to actually do the assignments.

Enjoy the silence. and I would mention something to your instructor about the freeloading of homework assignments. Think of it this way, if you were in the hospital, would you want someone who was cheating during nursing school to take care of you? I hope not!!

i hate people like that. i was "friends" with a classmate last semester, and she turned into the wicked witch of the west. would ask myself and other classmates for our phone #'s, wanting to compare papers, etc. she asked another friend of mine a few weeks ago to look at her ethics paper, and the other girl let her. well, our ethics papers are pass/fail...and the 2nd girl failed (only 6 out of 44 people passed), and the girl i cannot stand passed. ends up she was reading a lot of peoples, taking mental notes (or physical notes) and stealing ideas.

not only that (and thank the lord she didn't call me this morning), she calls another friend of mine...at 5:30 this morning to ask about a newborn care plan. five frickin' 30! this chic will call everyone nights before assignments and tests to get help. fortunately, she must not like me anymore (sob, sob!) bc she won't even try to call anymore.

and if she'd had called at 5:30? i would've answered, probably said some profanities, and hung up on her.

She's only going to sponge as long as you let her.

As for the silent treatment, silence is usually golden. Consider her silence as platinum.

Meant to say, the girl who freeloads asked to see another girl's ethics paper.... and when the 2nd girl (will call them K. & J.) (J) asked to see K's paper, K. freaked, and wouldn't let her. K. pretends to be so clueless and dumb (actually, she's useless in clinical) to get everyone to give her ideas. What an actress, let me tell you. Everyone is catching on though!

I've had a couple of those freeloaders in my class as well. I just finally tell them that I don't have time for them and if they ask for answers then I say I can't do it. Now, if its a language barrier problem (alot of students where I am are from other countries) then I will help them out but I have no time for negative freeloaders.

Yeah, and I just walked in from being out, and guess what? K. tried to call me on both phones to ask me something...about the newborn care plan, and about Ethics homework. Like I'm calling her back; seeing her at 6:30 will be too soon.

You'd think? she'd get the hint? My best friend from nursing school (the one who got the 5:30am phone call this morning) and I just try to ignore her and not pay att'n in lecture and clinicals; you think K. would GET THE HINT. I mean, no one is talking to her anymore in clinical, it is kind of pathetic and funny at the same time.

I'd totally just ignore your "friend", and not worry about it. If you weren't gaining anything from the relationship other than academia, it's not even worth losing a wink of sleep over.

Good luck; I hope the freeloader finally gets the hint soon!

i had 2 "friends" like that. not only did i tutor them to pass the entrance exam, A&P, and Chem, but the "rescue" me b.s while i'm sitting up all night writing/studying and "you want what again" ??? really :flamesonb fires me up...

one of them is in my class now--and i blew up a few month ago, since she was so incredibly mean and rude to me in front of classmates---she calls herself being funny... i just stopped being someones "fat-geeky-homework-and book-carrying friend-to the ditzy-cheerleader-type". :angryfire
but ya know---my classmates actually thought I was the one in the wrong, because "poor...." ---whatever. slackers unite and do your own stupid work!
just feels really bad to be used.
...and with my luck i end up with that type on my 1st job....

Unfortunately, the world is full of slackers and those who feel the need to help them..i have certainly had my share. some of them genuinely dont think they are doing anything wrong! :uhoh21: The last time i had that happen to me i straight out told her i barely have time to do my own work let alone someone elses! i suggested she contact the instructor for extra help if she didnt understand...got insulted and said i wasnt a team player, but she has never approached me again to do her work, and has gotten similar answers from other people, so she is finally getting the hint! I know i felt like an a$$ but had to do it, cuz i really like her as a person , she just doesnt like to do her own work..thinks she is too busy!(check out my life, silly!)
