Freaking Out

Nursing Students General Students

Talk me down people. I start nursing school in 4 weeks, at which point I assume I will no longer to be able to work full-time at my job where I don't make enough money to support myself anyway even when I work 40 hours a week, I have $37 in my checking account, my credit card is maxed, I was just told by the financial aid office that I don't qualify for aid because I already went to college once! There are supposedly some mysterious scholarships available but no one will talk about them until orientation. The private loans I have looked up have an interest rate of 14%! And my house, which I need to sell to have the money to do any of this school stuff, continues to languish on the market.

Oh, I know it will work out- I just don't know HOW and that is killing me! Aaargh, just need to know I am not the only one freaking out now that I am actually standing on the edge!

...a good way to keep yourself from bowing out of the idea of going to nursing school is to take those bills you have with all your other current issues listed on a big piece of paper and post them on a wall where you study in your home so you can look up at them and say "that's why i'm putting myself through this!" let your current situation motivate you to make a better life for yourself. if all else fails......you got us to vent to, chat with, laugh with, and pray for you as you go through the program. :kiss

renee, you have given me an idea....thanks! great advice! :kiss

Hey Kimtab---

thanks for the post. As like some of the others that posted mentioned, I thought I was the only one freaking out. It's scary to be taking on a new endeavor!!! I think what really gets my feet cold and my heart pumping is when I read some of the "horror" stories. I don't really mind the icky stuff--code browns, blood, and all---I'm more worried about how the veteran nurses might treat me! YIKES. I'm not usually one to take crap from anyone, but for some reason the posts where student nurses mention being treated rudely and nasty by the vet nurses just really gets me. I know all vet nurses aren't like that. The way I figure it,they were once in our shoes. I guess I feel like I'm going to be there to learn and someone has to teach me, so that eventually I can be there to help them out...ya know what i'm saying. I'm sure I'll deal with them if need be; It's just that the program and clinicals are going to be hard enough without having someone who is supposed to be helping to train me, rag on me every time I have a question.

In any case thanks to all of you for the words of encouragement!!! I hope the shakes eventually subside!!!

By the way, Kimtab and I think babynurswannb, you all are in Atlanta?? Me too!!! I'm expecting to begin my nursing prereqs: Human Anat I, Chemistry I, Microbiology and Statistics this Fall, in approx 4 weeks at Georgia Perimeter. GSU has a new accelerated program that lets you get BSN in a year. The first class enters this fall and is expected to graduate next Dec. 03. I hope to get into this program next fall. What do yall think about the accelerated programs???
