exam concerns

Today I have written an online midterm exam for my re-entry. As I wrote this exam, some of the material seemed somewhat unfamiliar - as if from a different textbook. Towards the end of the exam it included questions from material that was supposed to be covered later in the course. I had carefully organized all of my studying according to the Course Outline, and the specific chapters. After the exam, I checked, and 20% of the exam was on a later chapter.

I then contaced my course facilitator, and left a message for the program head. My facilitator said that those last 20% of questions would be removed from my mark, and that she would look into the specific other questions that I could remember. I wasn't permitted to take any written material out of the test site, so I could only rely on memory. One of them was something that I had specifically asked my facilitator about, and so I answered according to the facilitator's guidance, but my answer was marked wrong.

Is there anything else that I should do?

Sounds like you did the right thing. If you don't get some kind of response from the department head in a reasonable amount of time, you may want to follow up with him/her.

Thanks. The facilitator sounded helpful and understanding, but I think it's important to go through that exam and provide me with explanations about the correct answers to any questions that I answered incorrectly. I also will ask where these answers are located in this textbook, because I had been through that textbook repeatedly, and I had done all Study Guide questions. Basically I prepared well.

Now, to make the story even more interesting - I went today to write my final exam. The staff started to help me get set up on the computer, and it would only produce a mid-term exam. The staff said there was no record of my having written the mid-term exam. Earlier, the facilitator and I had discussed the questions, and the facilitator explained that she would adjust my mark, by excluding the 20% of questions that were on later test material. That was fine.

But she didn't record anything on the system. So, I asked her to please do this. She replied that she had it recorded in her own notes.

Fortunately, the staff could provide me with a hard copy of the final exam to write instead of online.

Now what?

I have phoned the facilitator, the head of the department and can only leave them voicemails. I did speak to someone, by phone, who said she would write messages for both of these people.

I'm sure it'll all work out.

But, well, you know.
