Nursing Students General Students

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to get a thread started for all of the BHC/MVC students; please help me get a support system going here. I am starting at BHC in Jan. 07 and would love to make contact with the other new students. It would also be great if the current students would join in too, maybe share some advise;) /horror stories.:uhoh21: I'm sure that you current students have a lot to say.

El Centro/Northlake has a couple of really good threads going, but it would sure be great to talk with those I will be going to school with too.

Good Luck to everyone!

Hi guys, sorry I haven't replied in a while. It's been a busy week, getting adjusted to my new schedule and taking care of my daughter. She got sick her first week of daycare with RSV. It turns out there was another baby there with RSV and she got it from her.

Anyway, I had my first skills lab today, and it went well. It was nice to get to meet some of our new classmates. I forgot to tell others about allnurses.com, though. I will tell others about it later. It would be nice to spread the word and start hearing more from other Brookhaven students and students in the new satellite Mountainview program. I am excited about getting started, but I have to admit that I am nervous about clinicals. Well, I am off to go study.

Hello everyone. I am taking some preq classes at Northlake. I am working towards Brookhaven's nursing program. I have taken 5 preq courses and made A's and B's...one C. I am a little nervous on the acceptance process. I read over the requirements online. For those who got acceptated....How hard was the test? What was the most challenging? I wanted a little feedback. I am also looking into a couple other 2 year nursing programs. Thanks and Congrats to everyone who got in the program... GOOD LUCK!!

Hi NewCareer78! The HESI test was not that bad. I did pretty well on it and didn't get a chance to study the study guide. But I would suggest that if you can, try to study the Hesi A2 study guide. Anything to help you get a higher score on it.

I think that what will be most challenging depends on you. I know that I am better at Reading Comprehension, Vocab and grammar and not quite as strong in the math and science areas. So my scores are higher in the Vocab, Reading Comp areas than A&P and Math. It may help you more if you review A&P a bit before you take the exam.

The test actually wasn't that difficult. The exam is computerized, and I felt that I had plenty of time to take the test. If you prepare for it and look over the study guide you should be okay.

hello friends,

i just sent out an email to our class inviting them to the site. there were a few addresses that i didn't have so we may need to let others know in class. anyway, i look forward to chatting/studying with everyone.

:welcome:

for those of you just comming on...tell us which skills lab you have and your first name (if your comfortable with that) so we will know who we are talking with; at least at first. if your not comfortable with disclosing, we can also disclose that info in private messages.

Now that we've all had a lab or two...

How do you feel? Still excited? Overwhelmed?

I am still trying to fight for the CD-Rom sets on ebay, so I had to go to the campus today and watch those. FYI, if you have headphones take them with you to use on the computers up in the lab.

Wish me luck on ebay!!:lol2:

Have fun with the bed baths.:lol2:

I'm still excited. I'm looking forward to doing some of the more complicated skills though. There is alot to do though with all the videos and cd's to watch. I hope you get the cd's on ebay. I'm just going to save the $70 and watch them in the lab. It would be convinient to watch them at home though without having to worry about open lab times.

i'm thinking about just watching all the videos/cds in lab as well. just go up an hour early and call it done!

i loved the bed baths, it was very relaxing and comical all at the same time. so i guess we are going to be restraining each other next week.

don't forget to complete your case study that is due for week three.

see ya!

I was thinking about this the other day. I have never seen a Brookhaven student in hospitals. Where do you have clinicals and what your uniforms look like?

good question lkg6!

so far the students on this bh/mv thread have just started in the new pilot program at bh so we have not began our clinicals yet; i believe we start ours in may. as of now the 2nd, 3rd and 4th semester students are wearing a sage green color and i'm not sure where their clinicals are. and to make things more confusing...the administrators are trying to determine what color/style of uniform we will be continuing with. at our interview in december they stated that we will be wearing white (yuk), but now they say they are trying to come up with something other than white, due to it being hard to keep clean and crisp looking. apparently they are discussing the color issue with the different clinical sites to be sure that the choices they are considering will not conflict with any of the hospitals colors.

so as of now look for sage green, and i'm not sure if it's just the top or the whole scrub. maybe someone else will have a correct descript of the current clinical students.

RHD, Medical City, Med. Center of Plano and a couple of other places I can't think of right now.

We go to Baylor Garland and some place in Irving as well. All I know about the old uniforms is the sage green color.

We were talking with Mrs Ludy and she said that we will in fact have white uniforms since RHD requires it and the others don't care, in order to avoid confusion and mix ups.

I'm in the Mon afternoon skills lab. I have been pulling the journal articles off the net for each weeks homework and am already emailing them to several people. If you want me to add you to my distribution list just shoot me a reply and I'd be happy to. Might save you a few minutes each week.
