Atheist Professers

Nursing Students General Students

 Hi everyone! I'm kind of new here, and I have a question: Right now I'm in A&P and my professor is an all out atheist. I realized when I decided to go the nursing route I would encounter many scientific minds, but whew! How do you fellow believers keep this from getting to you? Just a little friendly conversation starter, not trying to start a creation vs evolution debate. Hope to hear from yall!

:p

So this thread keeps trying to go off into the woods to die, but it keeps getting drug back out again to be discussed or disgusted again. Question? Aren't the issues the same as they always have been?

Humankind should not even try to argue such sensitive topics as politics, religion and sex. Because there is only the RIGHT AND THE WRONG WAY!!!!!!!!!

One of the endless debates and diatribes!!!!!!!

Just a few more thoughts of micro, please note micro's tongue in(or out of cheek attitude) attempted to portray here. Late into this thread, oh, well have a beer!!!!! Coffee for me.

Back to topic

1) Unclear about the original intent of this thread, way back to post #1. Because unless I know a person, typed words are just that. But the statement, indicated that an A&P professor shared and forced their belief system "down the throats" of their students.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>This is college folks. You are all adults. This is not grade school. When "science" is taught, sometimes it is not the "professor" that is in the wrong, but the perception of the students. Possibly the belief systems of some of the student listeners in the class are so RIGID, that they have difficulty in even listening to another point of view.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>Words such as evolution, scientific creationism, dna evidence, "God", carbon dating, faith, the 'bible', darwinism...........(and the list could go on and on) evoke such strong sentiment in the human animal(oops, the human being).....

>>>>>>>>>>>>>I know when I attended A&P, I did learn of my professor's belief system, because I got to know my professor outside of class and in this shared more than in class. But in class, my professor had to make a point to keep points focussed so that the class/students would not turn it into a debate issue. Why does teaching facts such as A & P, microbiology, biology, dna evoke such hot debate.

2) Indeed!!!! Will have to agree my friend, very well spoken and I do so admire eloquence in speech. And to many here, you have spoken well. To debate or not to debate is the question.

But to inflame, derail, insult, and outright condemn another person just because they are or are not.......well, the nature of the beast(this human animal).............

Micro includes herself in this race of humankind, even though dna origins unsure:p (denoting micro's tongue in and out of cheek attitude)

3) Micro hails from very religious roots. Thus belief in God in a very specific nature is a part of micro. Will not get into what part here, but I do understand "Both sides now".

And I do respect and love dearly certain people in my life, that are very rigid in their belief system. There is indeed no other way(to them).

But what a person believes is just that, a belief. Faith in a substance unseen. Beliefs are true to the believer. Faith is very private and should be respected........from all realms.

I sometimes have wished the issues were as cut and dry as to how I was raised........but they are not........or maybe this is part of my belief system.........

Micro in micro's never ending quest for answers that make sense to micro. Perceptions, folks, .............all is perception.

misperception/perception

intolerance/tolerance

disrespect/respect

closed/open

gonna post this anyway, even though not eloquent as many here.......

oh, well if noone understands micro's thread........well, then maybe micro's thread will help to serve in the death of this thread

Pshaw! Who told you you weren't eloquent? Don't believe 'em! Maybe they meant "elegant" and misspelled it? ;)

I agree strongly with the point above. You get ALL TYPES as professors. Your job is to get through the class with a passing grade. Theirs is primarily to teach you the material and secondarily to open your mind to the world around you (which, incidentally, is why you have to take all those electives).

Kristy,

Please don't use "Alheist" and "jerk" in the same sentence. Yes your Prof may be a jerk, but thats not because he's an Atheist. If you assume he's a jerk because he's an Atheist you've openned a whole bag of worms, because that would be stereotyping and pre-judging him. If he's a jerk just say he's a jerk.

Sarah ;)

micro is just who micro is........and gotta go to sleep early tonight .........because am doing a possible tomorrow double tomorrow////////////////// days for absolute sure//////////

later, my friends........

micro

the fact that it got of topic is what cause threads like this to go astray. and almost always end up getting ugly. i have no problem with a good debate it is just very hard to have one for long on religon or politics. people alaways want to bring other topics and issues into it and that does nothing but muddy up and cloud the topic of debate. if we want to debate religon lets start a thread on religon i will be glad to engage you in a healthy debate. but lets stic kto the issues at hand on this thread if we want to continue to discuss it. or else it will get way of track and out of hand

I can understand how this got started on the Nursing student thread but now I think it doesn't belong.. how about "Controversial Topics"

Some people dont consider the "message of god" good news-they find offensive and oppressive.

yawn yawn yawn.......ho hum...fee fi foe mum...gotta digress...bye bye! :zzzzz :zzzzz :p

just making a little humor folks......thought you'd enjoy a little "break" from the "action"....you know...like a television commericial??? :chuckle :lol2:

Suzie-Lee,

Some people find Agnostics or Atheists offensive or oppressive, it's a two way street.

thx lpn,future,rn and research rabbit...........

misspelled elegance.........hehehehehehehehehe

hey to all, i profess to make no sense today.....so ya'all might relate this to micro humour.........but.....(cynicism=micro labels microself)

the point doesn't seem to be against believers and nonbelievers........the problem seems yet to be between people with different belief systems............

atheism is a belief system.........

being unique...........micro worships the unique & different god............also of other names, but..............

agnosticism.......micro could fall here also........

belief in the god of the trinity.......very valid belief system folks.......

belief of a god or gods.........very valid belief systems..............

belief in science and fact only.........also a very valid and factual system of evaluating this existence..........

there is a very cool thing in a faith in something unseen, just known and believed.......i value that in people.........

i do not see it as a weakness, but only as a difference........

i have been there also............

micro believes in what micro feels and what micro sees right in front of microself.........valid belief system also.....

sorta a combination of all of the above................

of course micro is a god or goddess, depending on the day.......and mood.............and reminders from a friend

:p :p :p

but i believe and want to go back to the original post #1 of this thread.........this talks about a college a&p class where someone felt that a professor was insulting and even worse discrimating against christians..............

i was not there, so it is entirely true, that the professor was indeed doing this. if so, very wrong......and should of course be reported. christianity is a majority belief system in this country and " 'world'?"

but what has been micro's humble experience in this world.....is that when micro's belief system whatever it may be.....feels threatened.......in whatever shape or form........micro feels resistance....and quits listening............rather than learn and grow.......................

an instructor may have a different background.....and if micro is the student and the professor is the professor......then maybe, micro should just be quiet and listen to the instructor.................

and if you choose to attend and listen to the minister of the church of your choosing.........listen and learn and grow.......

but let me make my own choices without any conversion..........

it is all choice...........

are us humans not smart.................

we sure are a testy lot.......................

to every thing turn, turn, turn...........

a great song from the sixties...........

inspired from ecclesiastes...........
