Greetings!

I am starting the Nursing school in the fall 2005 and I am contemplating getting an Army or Navy or AF scholarship and joining the Nurses Corps. Everywhere I look I see benefits and the good parts of being in the Army, but could somebody share same difficult/bad features of being in the Army? Any advice would be greatly appreciated before I sign up papers.

Thank you.

:balloons: Hello, and welcome to Allnurses DT! :)

I can offer you advice as a former Department of the Army Civilian Nurse. I loved working in Army hospitals! I loved working alongside the Army Nurses, with other ancillary milititary staff, and with the other civilian nurses on staff! If I were young enough, I'd join the Armed Forces Nursing Corp today without hesitation! I've tried, but I'm six years past the cut off age. :o The experience I gained from those years was excellent indeed, and I've always been very impressed by the nursing corp's sharpness, discipline, skill levels, educational opportunities offered them, and the comraderie they all seemed to have with one another. :)

P.S. Probably the only downside to being a member of any Armed Forces Branch is during those times of separation from their families. As a retiree's wife, I know that sadness all too well.
