Anyone tape their lectures?

  1. I'm just wondering, if students do tape their lectures, what kind of recorder works best? I tried a cheap one last semester and didn't get anything-
    thanks!

I am using a Ws 100 olympus digital recorder. I love it!
I can download all my recordings and put them in a folder. I can record up to 24 hours. One AAA bactery last 13 hours, if you use the digital recorder to listen to lectures. I use my computer to listen to the lectures.

I don't tape my lectures, but a lot of my classmates do. They all have digital-type recorders. The only suggestion I have is for you to read the instructions and figure out how it works before you get to class!! One of the girls in the LPN class (the LPNs are w/ us ADN for our lecture time) had a recorder, but she couldn't figure it out and she ended up wasting about 15 minutes of our lecture time figuring out how to use it!! Everyone kept thinking, "She will be responsible for the lives of people and she won't even read the instructions on a tape recorder?!?!"

Good point! I'll be sure to do that...
Another question... do you put your recorders right up at the professor's lectern or do you keep them at your desks?
I know this sounds kind of dumb but.... with digital recorders, I'm assuming you don't have to worry about turning tapes over or anything???

You do not need to use tape. I can record in any area in the room, but I prefer to sit in the front of the class. It is very easy to figure out how to use a digital recorder. My has one the recording button in red, which I can also use for pause. The buttons are set up just like regular tape recorder.

I have a digital one also, and have found that I need to use the highest quality recording setting (it gives you less recording time, but the quality is better for my old ears! ). Also, I use earphones plugged into the thing to listen to the lectures afterwards - its so much clearer that way. It is an essential piece of equipment for me - definitely worth the cost.

I have an Olymous digital (DS-330) that I bought a couple years ago that still works great; I would recommend it. I don't have to put it near her desk to get good sound quality but I'm sure that just depends on the rooms accoustics.
