Anyone else just passing

Nursing Students General Students

I had a B+ before todays exam. I got a 72 and I am not sure where that puts me. We have to get a C in order to get to next semester. The thing is I know I would be a good nurse. And I really studied for it, there is nothing I would have done differently to study. I studied every chance I had.

It is very upsetting putting all this time in and not being good enough.

Thanks for listening.

Adamsmom,

I know exactly how you feel! I started nursing school this Fall at an accelerated BSN program and it's kicking my butt! I have gotten in the 70s in all of my tests, but have done well on quizzes and papers. I think it's just really hard and tons of work, and for some who don't have a science background, you have a to build a foundation.

Don't worry, I'm sure you'll do fine. You may just have to figure out a different way to study - maybe study groups, flashcards, etc.

Good luck! I feel ya!

We have a group of 4-6 and we quiz each other on testable matierial. You think you know the stuff until someone quizzes you and you have to recite the material back. Then you really know what you need to study. I am tutoring a fellow student and it helps me memorize my stuff, when I quiz her on the material. We meet the day before a test and go over the stuff. Hope it helps.

Our last cardiac test, only one student passed (out of about 130 students). That exam brought my avarage down a lot, but I knew I studied hard, and there was really nothing I could do to pass that test besides guessing the answers.

:monkeydance: I am sure glad I am not the only person on the planet that is having more difficult time than others who dont study and I study my butt off. I have been so out of sorts with NS. I was beginning to think I was from Mars or some other planet. We have to try not to let it get us down because I know I would be a good nurse, too.

We thought the same thing. It can't be our fault. Our instructors admited later, that most of the questions were 'pilot' questions and were never tested on students before. They wanted to see if those can be used on exams, but we all failed.

Well I know I am barely passing. I bombed one test and it too me down to a low C. I still have 4 more test and he final so hopefully I will be ok, but I am just kicking myself for not paying more attention and studying insurance more. Who would have thought that a test on insurance would be a huge factor in a nursing students failure.

So far I am averaging 93 and got a 98 on my last test. What I did, over the summer, I practiced from saunders, kaplan and nclex 3500. I did 75 questions everyday, which I believe has contributed to my early success. I am also tutoring other students. The key is to know the nclex strategies. I have learned, you can read all you want, if you cannot apply critical thinking, you are not going to do well. There are so many students in my class sinking, eventhough they are reading day and night. They just not connecting the dots. When you read, pay attention to the charts.

Good luck to everyone. I hope you all pass.

I am in my first semester and just had our third test yesterday. The first test I studied for and got a 68.7... the second test I really worked for and read to no end. I knew the material backwards and forwards... got an 80... I was so upset. I went to the staff and just cried. I am sure they thought I was crazy. Basically, after sitting down and going through my study habits I found the problem area. I was reading... I was memorizing... but I wasnt able to apply. I got an 86 on the test yesterday and I can tell you right now exactly which problems I missed because I just did not know the right answer... but the nice thing is that I walked out of the room knowing that I had passed... that I had the 80% I needed to bring me up to a C... and the rest of the class came out very upset over the test. Our class averages have been decent. The first test was the worst and the class average was around a 74 (76 passing), the second around an 85, and this one was an 82.

It is the most nerve wrecking feeling knowing that you have worked so hard for something and then you dont do as well as you wanted. I have never been so happy in my life as I was yesterday to see a B. I was also finally able to explain to my family how much this means to me. How much I WANT to be a nurse but knowing that these tests stand in my way. I know the information... you can throw the questions at me and I can give you the answer... but the tests throw me off everytime. In our case we really do not have any other material that makes up our grade... 95% of your grade is your tests and final... that other 5% is a worksheet. We have a bunch of other assignments that arent graded but have to be turned in or else you can not move on as well.

Like I told someone the other day... I was told nursing school was hard... but if I had been told it was this hard I A- wouldnt have listened probably and B- wouldnt have gone!

Keep your chin up!!!!!!!

I can't imagine that a 72 would be enough to drag a B+ average into danger territory. Is it that you're worried about future tests? Good luck!

We have other assignments, but if you don't have a passing test average (75%+) they don't even factor in the other stuff. You fail. And of course, if you have a 75% test average, and your other assignments bring your grade below that, you fail (that would be pretty hard to do though; the assignments are pretty easy).
