Any former law students?

Nursing Students General Students

Is anyone else a former law student?? Thankfully I "saw the light" and made the switch to nursing :nuke: .

Maybe I'm jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire, but I'm finishing up a BSN and I just retook the LSAT.

hmm...this is an interesting post for me because i'm going to school for my BSN right now, but then i plan on going to law school. can't wait to hear other responses..

what made u change your mind?

I'm not a former law student but I was seriously considering law school (took the LSAT) and worked in a law firm for a while to get experience. At the time I was doing this, I had never considered nursing. Long story short, I hated the whole law firm atmosphere and realized being a lawyer would not be a good fit for me whatsoever. Got into nursing school, and here I am, a nursing student. I really think nursing is just so much more of a better fit for me personally...

However, I realize that there are more jobs out there besides working in a law firm, and as a nurse who is also an attorney, you would probably be in great demand...is that what you all who have your BSN with law school plans thinking of doing (combining your nursing background with law)? or are you leaving nursing completely for a different career?

Was a pre-law student. Finished 3 years (almost graduated!) before I realized that law just didn't fit me. Now I'm a nsg major and when I get done with my BSN I'm taking the LSATS.

Saw on CNN that some law schools are requiring students to take golf lessons because "deals are made in golf". I cannot, absolutely cannot golf. Hope my law school doesn't require it because there will be no deals made in my games, just lots of laughs.

Specializes in Med/Surg.

Not Law school For me.. But Actuary Science... @ University of Louisville it was in the Same Building... lol

that's what i plan on doing...combining nursing and law. i don't know exactly what i'll specialize in yet, tort law maybe?

I also read in Time magazine that law schools are more apt to accept you if you have a medical background. That's always good news! I believe the reason was that there aren't enough malpractice lawyers and they need to increase those numbers. I don't want to be a malpractice attorney, but if saying so will get me into law school I'll say it.

I have my hopes on either death penalty law or constitutional law.

I just would have to face the fact that most inmates on death row do not get pardoned and it would mean alot of losses.

I actually remember one of my professors talking about how she knows a few nurses who are now currently pursuing their masters in nursing, who previously have a BSN and a JD (I know, that's a ton of education haha). Anyways, she said that they make a great amount of money as nurses with a law degree, I am not sure if they function as attorneys but more so as legal consultant types. I've also heard similar things about nurses who have gone on to get MBAs being in great demand as well....you really have many options with a nursing background it seems, as health care has so many aspects besides just medicine. Best of luck to you all!

I'm looking toward college/university teaching, but it opens up opportunities with consulting, risk management, administration, litigation, etc.
