And about the cellphones in class...

Do not talk on them while your instructors are speaking! I cannot believe that this girl was actually having a conversation on her phone while the instructor was lecturing! I just cant believe it. And there were at least 5 instances of very loud ringers.

(Yea, it's called vibrate!)

I tell ya, some people are so inconsiderate.

For us it's expected to be on vibrate. If we need to take a call we can leave the class.

We do not have phones in any of the classrooms. There are offices near the classrooms that have phones but they are not always occupied and all have different numbers. We are in the evening (until 9pm) and so calling the "office" doesn't work either.

So for us there is no way of contacting us if we don't have cell phones. I personally believe it's very important that we have the ability to be reached by our families. You just don't know when there is an emergency.

There is a woman in my class who keeps living stuff in her van...meaning she keeps enough stuff for herself and her kids to take off at a moment's notice. She does this because of an ex. Well when she's at school, and she needs to get through school to support the kids, she needs to be reachable. She can't just wait until she gets home.

I don't have an issue with phones going off if it's once in a blue moon. We are all pretty easy going.

My professors confiscates any cell phone that makes a noise, any noise, even the vibrating noise during lecture and we have to pay them 25 dollars for them to return our phone. The money goes into our class fund. So far I think we have had three incidents.

On test days we can not bring anything but a calculator, pencils and our car keys. No purses, no cell phones, no nothing on your person. No hats, bandanas etc either.

Cell phones should be off, but they can't take my 350 dollar phone and expect me to pay 25 dollars to get it back. As Bernie Mac says There'd be a misunderstanding! and a BIG ole problem. Nobody is touchin' my phone. Now this would never happen to me because In the 3 years I have been in school I have never forgotten to turn my cell phone off and I don't carry a cellphone during clinical. I have a small child and I let the office at her school know the phone number to my school so that they can get me if there is a problem. Nobody wants to hear flight of the bumblebee or justin timberlake/Britney/Ciara/lil john/fifty cent and the like going off as a ring tone in class every 5 minutes. We need to behave like the professionals that we will be.

I understand that having a cell phone go off during class and/or someone talking on a phone during class is disruptive. But I think it is a bit excessive to be confiscating phones when they are only on vibrate. I have 3 small children at home with a babysitter. My husband travels nationally during the week by airplane.

I feel that I need to have some way for them to get a hold of me in an emergency and quickly. My class is in the evening and the office of the school is not open. I just don't think that is fair.
