A Question for May 2002 Graduates...

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone else is finding the same thing as me with trying to find the perfect job after graduation... Are there any hospitals out there that are hiring new grads for day shifts??? I'm applying for neonatal or labor and delivery internships, and all I have been offered is night shifts...which pays a heck of a lot more, but I don't think it's worth it for me. Anyways, I was just wondering!

I also graduate in May and having been touring/interviewing!

I have found a few day positions, but being that I am not a day person, havent asked for one..LOL I am at my best from early evening on, and quite honestly the thought of getting up at 5 a.m. makes me ill...LOL :) I hated it during clinicals and felt like I was walking around in a fog until around noon..teehee

I hope you find a day position or at least one that you are happy with! I am also looking into internships..I think they are a great learning experience and will allow me to be in the area of my choice.

Best of luck to you and all new grads to be!!

I have been told that one year of experience is requierd to work nights at all here... So dayshifts are the only thing I have been offered! I found "my" job at psych, so I´m happy!

I graduate in May also. I have my first interview tomorrow and another on Wed. Boy am I getting nervous about going into the "real world"!

We have been told that days are not generally available for new grads. I know they do offer day/night rotations and I believe day/evenings here. I'm a night person too. I hope to work either straight evenings or an evening/night rotation.

How have the interviews/touring been going for you guys? Any hints or pointers for me? I have made a list of questions to ask. Has anyone been offered the job on the spot?

Thanks,

Roberta

Hey, Tattoochick while I do not graduate until May 2003. I do have a few friends graduating this year and they are having a hard time finding positions in labor/delivery and NICU for the day shift but evenings and nights are fully available. From what I hear for many hospitals it is pretty competitive getting a day shift especailly in certain areas. I know of others graduating who have found a day shift like in Med-surg, ICU, or other places. It depends on the hospital and what areas are popular for what shift at that hospital. Keep your eyes open and hopefully you will find just what you are looking for. You would think with the nursing shortage you would have a easy time but sometimes it is not.

I personally would almost have to end up doing night shift because it would be the only way I can do 12 hour shifts as a single parent. My parents would be able to babysit for me at night but the only thing that scares me is the fact of thinking would I be able to handle the night shift and stay up that long. I am a night person but only for so long.

Good luck to all the upcoming 2002 grads.
