A&P2 Summer..What would you do?

I am starting the nursing program in August. The only class I have left that to take that is not a nursing program core class is A&P II. So right now I have the option of either taking it in a 5 week summer session class or taking it along with my other classes in the spring. (My school does not offer it in the Fall).

Here are some deciding factors:

1) If I take it in the summer I have to pay for it. I don't really have the money right now but I have applied for a summer scholarship which will pay for half and that would make it a little more "doable" if I get it.

If I take it in the Spring Fin Aid should pay for it.

2) If I take it in the summer it is done and then I can concentrate strictly on the nursing classes. (Since all of my prereqs are done I'm only looking at about 7 credit hours in the spring anyway so it wouldn't be that bad to add AP)

3) From what I was told from the prof. of the class, you need to eat, sleep and LIVE a&p for the 5 weeks.

I am exhausted right now from doing 16 credit hours a semester and mainting a 4.0. I really feel like I need the break before I start the program. Plus I just started a new job that I would like to hoard away some money over the summer to help offset my expenses if I can't do it while going to NS.

I know that you can't tell me what to do, but opinions would be helpful! Thanks so much!

I took A&P II last summer in an 8 week setting and it was indeed "eat, sleep & breathe anatomy and phys". That said, I like that it was concentrated. I had it 4 days a week and it really got into my head. If it's the only class you have to focus on, that's great. I would take advantage of the situation and take it over summer rather than squeezing it in over the semester with nursing classes. I also find it hard to believe that they'll let you taking nursing classes without having taken A&PII, which seems to be a pre-requisite you can't get around for most programs. Good luck with your decision!

You should take it this summer! You shouldn't mix clinicals and nursing classes with A&P because you are doing things and learning things that are based on knowledge that you get in A&P so you don't want to be learning the things you should already know at the same time of learning those things..lol.

I would NEVER recommend mixing anything like A&P with nursing classes. I contemplated doing that with Micro, but once I got in NS and saw how it was - I took Micro during the summer. I was in the same boat as you - had to pay for it out of pocket vs. using my aid. To me, it was well worth my money (that I sure didn't have either, lol) and my time to not have to deal with it on top of my nursing classes. Good luck with whatever you decide! :)

im taking AP II over the summer 5 week class Mon-Fri thats the ONLY class Im taking.. I do have to pay for it myself but after taking AP 1 with Algebra and Spanish- I learned the hard way not to take anything else with an AP class.. a lot is my AP teacher... She is out there to say the least- so Im going to a CC for the rest of my science classes.. I have met the prof, and he seems awesome! I cant wait... haha is it bad to look forward to AP- maybe just to be out from under this other teacher- Has anyone ever had.. just a really bad teacher.. kinda gets you to doubt yourself.. Anyways- If you can afford it and take just that, I would go for it.. I dont think I would EVER mix AP with anything else!! Good Luck!

I guess i'll see if I get the scholarship and go from there. Part of me just wants it out of the way and from what my Prof told me, the summer session is hard, but for the most part "A" students are A students whether they take it in a full semester, or a summer semester and so I guess that part of it would be ok...

I just feel so tired and I know it is only going to get worse in the fall! Worse in a good way of course!

Thats about where Im at.. I want to get it over.. I had a very rough last semester. Yes I realize AP is hard- but a little stucture from the teacher.. helps immensly!!

Take it in the summer!!! It will really help you to understand it and take your time with it, and it will be so much better to have the time to devote to nursing! I'm in A&P2 and nursing 2, and it is HARD, but I realize how important everything is that I am learning since there are so many areas that build on one another....so I suggest taking it separate, but learning and retaining as much as you can, it will only help you later to complete the picture.
