I have worked in nicu 16 years. my work record is clean. Iwas terminated today and feel it was handled incorrectly by management. I do not wish to return to this unit run by tyrants, but need help in negotiating trying to reverse termination to resignation. Any suggestions?

i don't know what to say, yet.

why were you (wrongfully) terminated?

is there an appeal process?

was your termination r/t noncompliance w/policy & procedure?

and, in your p&p, is there a series of events that needs to take place before termination?

i.e., verbal warnings, written warnings, suspension, etc.

i would need to hear more before offering my input.

I agree with Leslie, per usual. With no mention of circumstances, it's really hard to offer advice. There is, also, a difference between being unfairly fired and "wrongful termination" in a legal sense. You can be fired for a BS reason without it being legally actionable. It also depends on what state you're in, whether you're union, etc, etc, etc.

i do think bs reasons, would be less acceptable for someone who has been employed for 16 yrs, with a clean record....especially with a clean record.

working that long, there is an implied contract that states they are satisfied with employee's performance.

with her record being clean and suddenly being terminated, i have to wonder what the heck happened?

there are offenses that command immediate termination-

and then, there are offenses that warrant something much less harsh.

i'd really be curious what the employer's reason was for this terminable event.

Yes, please do not go into any detail about your situation on this public board, and we cannot give you any legal advice here.

lets just say that i didn't use drugs or alcohol, nor did I abandon my patient, nor did my patient suffer any negative outcome from my actions. It was based on a parents complaint that I ( i was caught off guard ) agreed with and told the truth.

sorry nothing more will be said.
