WORST Hospital EVER.

My grandfather is rushed by ambulance to the ER because of serious chest pains.. not even a week ago he was admitted into the hospital for the SAME thing and was told he had a mild heart attack.

We get the ER and no one is to be found.. he says his pain is at a 10, he's concerned, uncomfortable, and in pain.. We get a RUDE nurse who doesnt even look at us in the eye or even look at the pateint.. just says "the doctor will be in"

Then the doctor.. omg, I am so sick of these arrogant doctors.. treating his situation like it was nothing, I do NOT care how many people you see in your shift with the same type of sypmtoms you do NOT treat a patient like they are not worthy of your concern.

They started treating him as if he was havign some mild gas.. well now the medical staff is running around because everything is worse now and they think he is having a heart attack!

This hospital treated me terriable when I was in the ER too. UGH! I cannot stand when people dont take their patients concern or medical situation seriously.. Who cares how many patients you see.. THIS patient is not used to this sort of thing.

Im in School now, getting my pre-reqs done for nursing.. im telling ya, this feild ****** me off and im not even in it yet.. I dont think I wanna work in a hospital for a long period of time. I wanna be in the field, but this arrogance that is carried with it just drives me nuts!!\

It doesn't feel very nice when the person's needs seem to be minimized.

I am assuming that you live in an area where you don't have a choice of facilities, or you probably wouldn't have gone back to this one, given your past bad experiences.

Please consider calling administration and requesting a meeting with the Chief Officer and Director of Nursing. Have a list prepared of specific complaints (For example: Grandpa was not assessed by a nurse or doctor for 30 minutes after arrival, despite his complaint of 10/10 chest pain, shortness of breath, pale color and perspiration. 60 minutes passed before Grandpa received pain medication. Despite having been discharged from this facility one week ago with a diagnosis of MI, Grandpa was treated for gas pain by the physician on duty......etc.) Give specific, objective examples of inappropriate care and treatment.

Be calm, but make it clear that unless you receive adequate reassurance that the quality of care in the ER will improve immediately, you will be forced to notify the State Boards of Medicine, Nursing and Health of your unstisfactory experiences. After all, if you live in an area with only one hospital, it is a mater of public health and safety.

I am so sorry that you had this experience. You are absolutely right that every patient should be given unbiased, proper attention and that symptoms should not be minimized. Diagnostic tests determine the nature and severity of symptoms, not unprofessional arrogance.

I venture to say that this experience may play a role in shaping the kind of nurse you will be. You will be the nurse who takes people seriously, who investigates thoroughly; who takes the time to listen and relay vital information to the docs that they may have missed. I bet you'll be fabulous.

I am in the same situation with my primary care doc. When I go and see her she treats me like nothing is really wrong.

I have Neurofibromatosis, which is classified as a progressive disorder. I have been her patient for about a year now, and have had to go a bunch of times. The last time it was nausea and vomiting she put me on meds and just kept upping the dose. One of my other docs had me go to another specialist, I finally got diagnosed with a hiatal hernia.

Can not wait until I see her in August for my physical so that I can tell her this.

I hope you've written your account of this incident. Can you report this facility to the state? This is serious and has to be a breach of minimum standards of care (I'm not an ER RN so don't know how it works in the ER.) I'm not sure where you would report them, maybe the Dept of Public Health? JCHAO? And try to get a meeting with the CEO and chief nursing officer, as someone else suggested.
