Will I get into nursing school?

Nurses General Nursing

Hi!

I am in my third year of college finishing up some classes before, hopefully, starting nursing school next Fall. I have a 2.6 G.P.A and I am applying to nursing schools in Georgia. Is there anyway I could get into a program? I am working on getting my G.P.A higher. I am so scared I will not get accepted anywhere and not be in school for a whole year. What should I do? Advice? Anything will be helpful.

Thanks

2.6 GPA is low for Ga schools. I would retake some classes and get those scores higher

Waaaay back, my GPA weighed 50% in the decision to be accepted .Do you know the weight factor for the schools you are applying to?

Thinking you need to have a serious discussion with your academic counselor. Really, only they can guide you.

Specializes in ER, Med-surg.

You need to find out the admission criteria and weighting for the programs you're most interested in- it may be possible depending on their policies, and you may be able to do something to improve your application to the most likely programs. Some programs weight GPA higher than others, some will give points toward admission for other criteria you may be able to fulfill, and some don't rank candidates, so it's simply lottery-based after you pass the threshold to qualify. But 2.6 is very low for most programs, so it's possible you will find yourself waiting and having to work to improve your GPA before you get in.

Improve the GPA. My grades were not that great & did not get into any program the first year I applied. Second year came around and I applied for a LVN program along with the RN program - got into the LVN program and went that route. It took me a year longer but at the time it was a great option for me. When it came to apply for the LVN-RN bridge program the competition was not as great - I think there were maybe 60 LVN-Rn applicants for roughly 40 spots, whereas when applying for the RN program there were 300+ applicants for 125 spots.

Hi,

Definitely check out the schools you are looking at, and try speaking to an admissions counselor. Also researching the school programs on their websites should tell you info about their acceptance rate and criteria.

I would try to take some classes over, especially your sciences and English. They are all important, but you want to go in strong since this field is highly competitive. You can do it!
