I encountered another NCLEX question where there is no answer key for it. It was about a community health teaching about the benefits of Folic Acid in preventing Neural Tube Defects. The question is,... Read More

#3 would be my choice. 400 mcg of folic acid/day is recommended for ALL women of child-bearing age (defined as roughly age 15-44). At least where I live....more often than not our new moms are unmarried.

But are most mothers teenagers? I don't think the question has anything to do with the "married" part.

oh yes, it does make sense. To think, I slashed that option out right away. I guess I kind of forgot that aspect. Could it be because of our culture? In the Philippines, HS girls aren't that open to having sex yet although they are starting but it isn't that pronounced yet compared probably to most or some American HS girls. I don't mean to generalize but I guess there really is quite a difference.

I really believe that in taking the NCLEX, we have to let go of some personal experiences or biases. Like in my case, when HS girls was mentioned, I imagined the typical Filipina highschool girl who barely even knows how to flirt! Haha. So that led me to slashing out the option right away.

True...probably doesn't have anything to do with the married part. But, it does have something to do with age, and to choose "newly married" couple implies that "married" does have something to do with it. The answer choice about the HS students is more inclusive and folic acid teaching should begin that early.
