would professor should i choose for second semester nursing school? the OB/peds semester?

professor A: systematic, harder, generic, a little strict, most of your previous colleagues are going for this professor

professor B: nuturing, interested with relationships with patients, easier.... but none of your colleagues are going for this professor

thoughts???? who would you choose and why?

You know...it depends on your personal style of learning and how YOU relate to patients....and it's tough to say unless you've had them before....so I really don't think we can give you advice on this.................

Personally, I'd go for the patient relationship one....I like being able to interact with my patients(within reason)..and versus just having clinical data to report, you can report the emotional state as well....just my .02

If both are equally knowledgable in their field I would go with Professor B as I learn better in a nurturing environment.

Hindsight is an interesting thing. When I was in your shoes, so to speak, I chose the "easier, more nurturing" instructor. I preferred the quiet touch to the one who put everyone on edge, wondering if they were about to fail out most days. Of course!

But looking back, that instructor who had the more no-nonsense approach, who set her students on edge having them KNOW so much....well, guess what, they DID know more than others after a round of clinicals with her!

Those that chose the harder instructor, who seemed kinda brusque, got more out of their education in the same time that those who chose the warm and fuzzy one did. I know: I chose the warm, fuzzy one, and felt like I had to play catch-up to those who took Instructor A.

if i had the choice; i would go for the stricter one - nurturing worked for the beginning in fundamentals, but after that, lots of hard work and scooping up as much info/experience as possible.

having said that, though, go with your instinct:saint:

I would choose B. I learn better when there isn't pressure.

I would take the nurturer, because that is my style of learning. I am aware that the stricter ones had people learn a great deal more, but, I also believe that applying myself to learning is what made me more successful. That is just my 2 cents.

It is actually a tough choice because both approaches have their benefits and drawbacks. Although the tough type makes me nervous and on edge, I think that I would choose the tougher teacher as long as I felt that this teacher would provide more learning. I would likely choose the most organized and fair teacher in the end. JMO.

I'd also take into consideration if you think you may want to go into that field or not. My last semester, I chose the nurturing, easy professors because I KNEW I didn't want to work with adults or go into public health, and I didn't want to screw up anything right before graduation. Worked out well for me and it was nice to actually be able to relax while most of my classmates were stressed out as usual.
