Does anyone else feel like this about NS? I have been wanting to go for years, but it never works out. My husband and I are always helping other people with everything and great things always happen to everyone else. I don't get it?! Does anyone elase ever feel like you are always helping everyone else in your life but there is never anyone to help you?

I really don't want to be one of those people who are selfish because I really, really love being able to help other people... I just can't help but wonder when it is my turn.

Thanks for listening..

Sounds like it is time to do something for yourself (like go to nursing school). You should not let other peoples down-falls and bad luck get in your way...if you can help some one out without it disrupting your life, then cool...but don't ruin your dreams by helping others. Take a break from saving other peoples problems and solve yours...if you do not do something for yourself soon and continue on the path that you are on you are going to start to resent the people you are helping.

Sometimes you just have to be a bit selfish. If people are holding you back don't let them, tell them how much becoming a nurse means to you. If they can't accept that then they are the ones being selfish.

This kept happening to me, so when it was time to register for classes in 2004, I went and signed up. There was a registration fee, so I said, "well, I paid this money, now I have to go" then I paid for classes and said "well, I've paid, now I have to go"....and so on. You have to decide to do something for yourself. Do what is best for you.

If it's better to give than to receive why is she miserable?

The girl clearly gives too much, and probably can't say no, so it's time for her to put her foot down and start being selfish. Most of us know what that's like, so go for it BethT - do something for yourself and don't let anyone guilt you.

It's funny that you say that because everytime I start feeling this way I always remind myself that God loves a cheerful giver. It just sucks because I know it is the right thing to do and I know that if I am patient long enough and work hard that eventually things will start working out for me.

I'm also a big fan of giving to charity and the good news is that if you up your income with a nurses salary you can give even more in the end if that is your path. :) I also think there are some things that you have to just do. Like edisongirl25 said, just register and pay for 1 class. Once you start its much easier to keep the momentum going. Good luck.

While I also believe it's better to give than receive, I also believe that you have to look out for you or run the risk of becoming one bitter person. Sometimes, you just have to do something for yourself. If nursing is your passion, then, as others have suggested, go for it - sign up for classes.

I finally comitted to nursing school in 2002. Started taking classes at the community college, got into a pre-nursing program and began nursing school in August, 2003 and graduated in May, 2005. There were challenges (I had a procedure in the 1st semester, DD had srugery in October, 2004).

There never is a "perfect time", you just gotta jump in with both feet and do it! I was 45 at the time I finally began my journey. Time is precious, don't waste it on wishing!

I have already taken all my pre req's, I'm all set. What keeps holding me back is my husband and I work at a job where we work together (team management) and if I quit, he looses his job. This job also gives us a free place to live, all of wish is going to be huge obstacles for us to overcome while I am in NS. Everytime we get ready to make our move something always holds us back, like someone living with us that doesn't quite have their crap together, stuff like that. I am becoming bitter. I get to where I don't even want anything good to happen to anyone else. It makes me angry! I HATE that I feel like this, it makes me sick at my stomach. I know what I have to do, it's just doing it that is so hard. I just needed to talk to someone who understands. You guys are always so supportive.

Thanks guys.
