Okay ladies, I graduated LPN school when I was 23 y/o in 1993 and have worked Full-time my entire nursing career up until I had my 2nd child in 2004. At that time, I worked the weekend program working every weekend 11-7 for a year and then I went to working part-time 3-11 and then I went per-diem hardly working at all and finally quitting in 2006. I started a direct sales business in Nov. of 2004 and beyond my wildest dreams could I have imagined that my business has become extremely successful. I made $75,000 last year and will make over $100,000 this year and honestly, I work about 40 hrs./month. I am truly blessed to be able to be home with my daughter and make this kind of money, however, I missed nursing and went to work at the hospital part-time 3-11 and I did that for 6 months and unfortunately I had to quit since I had to work every other weekend and that is when I do home parties for my business so my hubby said that if my nursing job interfered with where the "real" money was coming from, I would have to quit, so I did. Well, lately, I have had this OVERWHELMING desire to go back and get my RN. My daughter, who will be turning 5 in august and will be starting all day kindegarden in August and I will be home alone M-F. YES, I have my home business, however, I do not have enough work to keep me busy. I applied at a doctors office and had a 2nd interview and those hours are M, Tues, Weds (20 hrs/wk) no weekends and no holidays which will not affect my business thank god. I'm not sure if I will be satisfied just having a job back in nursing or if I should go back for my RN. Plus, if I do go back to school, will I be able to handle working a part-time nursing job, doing my business, taking care of a family and house and going back to school and studying. Do you think I should just stick to my business which continues to grow and grow and I have the potential of making lots and lots of money and working as an LPN part-time and forget about going back to school. My husband says to do whatever I want and it wouldn't hurt to have my RN, however, my brother thinks I am crazy considering the money I am making with my home business and feels that in 5 years I will be making over $250K and if I go back to school I could jeopardize that, what would you do?? By the way, I will be 39 at the end of this month.

doesn't matter what *i* would do. what matters is that you make yourself happy. in 40 years when you're on your death bed, do you want to reflect back upon how much money you made from your business, the nice things you were able to buy and the good education you provided for your child? or do you want to look back and reflect upon how you've contributed to society through your work as a nurse? what are you going to be proudest of/regret the most when you look back? only you can answer that.

doesn't matter if you're 19, 29, 39, 49 or even 59.

What the heck is your other job??? I want in!! LOL

:yeah: If I had that sort of money coming in, I wouldn't bother with LPN or RN! I'd be able to create ways to be busy!

Do what is in your heart, OP. Period! And are you hiring:D?

My father always says, "Do what makes you happy and all the rest will take care of itself." I did not understand that until I finally gor my LVN and will be starting my RN soon. I have never been as happy as I am now. YOU have to decide what is going to make YOU happy.

Just Go for it!!

I would love to know what home business you are in.

That's what I would want to do.

Okay ladies, I appreciate everyones input. I wasn't going to say what business I do because I didn't want people thinking that I was "advertising". Anyway, because I have had a couple of requests, I am a Star Division Manager with lia sophia jewelry. I have over 100 "active" women on my team with 7 managers promoted out under me. I personally earn 40% commission on whatever I sell. I earn 10% (retail mind you on everything my central until sells and 5% on all of my managers' teams, PLUS, I get a monthly bonus on top of all of that. My team sells anywhere from $80,000 to $115,000 a month. I am truly blessed and do whatever I can do support and motivate my team in any way I possibly can.

As for nursing, I think I am going to wait and see if I get this doctors office job and see if that calms my "want" for going back to get my RN. If it doesn't, I will go back to school part time, work part-time, do my lia sophia business and take care of my family.

I'd find a PRN job of 3 days a month or volunteer your nursing service to a homeless shelter or charity & go back for your RN if it still doesn't 'float ur boat' =)
