As a Mod on the General Nursing Discussion Forum I have read a lot of threads over the last 10 years but I will always remember the theme of my first post

It was a desperate thread about NCLEX-I took the NCLEX in January 2005 to enable me to come and nurse in the US! I felt ill will anticipation of the result and needed to read some supportive information from others in the same boat!

I did an engine search and allnurses popped up and the rest is history!

So what was your first thread?

How did you find out about allnurses?

I stumbled upon Allnurses.com via a search engine in early 2005. At the time I was a 24-year-old student attending an LVN program. Back in those days, Allnurses.com had less than 100,000 members.

My first post asked about the differences between LVN and RN. The membership basically responded that the issue has been discussed over and over.

My second post asked if anyone knew of any RNs who were disgraced or lost their licenses. A former moderator assumed I was trolling and removed the thread. This individual also called me a troll in another thread, but that's water under the bridge.

My tenth anniversary of membership will be February 20th, in a few days. Looking back at my first few experiences on these forums, I shake my head and wonder why I even decided to keep returning.

I don't want to find my first post... I'd probably be embarrassed:facepalm:

I can hardly remember what my last post was, lol. :D

Not a clue. Ancient history LOL!

Geeze, am I the only one who cringes at some of the posts and comments they've made. I guess there is a way to cancel, edit, stuff....if I were really bothered I'd figure out how to use it!

I can't remember what brought me to Allnures...I assume just Goggling some topic and it popped up?

I remembering replying to a question about TEAS.....I made some lame reply when I had, (have), only the vaguest idea what TEAS are.

I had a horrible username under a different account. I was in nursing school.

I believe my username had the word "hottie" in it somewhere. LOL. If I saw someone with hottie in her username now, I would think to myself "wow what an idiot, he/she really shouldn't become a nurse"

I think it was a year or two before I even started nursing school. I think there was a big thread about breastfeeding, and a nurse friend of mine asked me to chime in as an "expert" (hardly an expert at that time, but I had been a La Leche League Leader for several years).

I'm actually a little embarrassed when I think back on it. At that time, I had no idea what I didn't know.

I actually recently looked back at some of my very early posts, and I was kind of obnoxious.

I feel like my transition from the poster I was to the poster I am now was a huge thread I started about 3 or 4 years ago, about healthcare workers who go out to bars and otherwise go out socializing after their shift, while still in their scrubs. I was mortified then, and still am now (FOMITES!). But it was funny, I felt like the regulars didn't really "know" me as well then as they do now, and I had a lot of people who totally misread my post. Mainly I was writing it while completely tongue-in-cheek (which I often do).

I think my first post was in response to the question if it was ethical to lie to people with dementia, or if they should always be reality-oriented.

My first thread that I started was on the Patient Safety forum. I shared about losing my beloved Grandma due to malfunctioning anti-wander devices in her memory care home, and asked that nurses be vocal in insuring quality control in their facilities.

To be honest I'm not sure how I found AN. I think I was doing a Google search for a topic and found a thread in the results. I love nursing, it's a huge part of who I am (not merely what I do), and I enjoy talking shop. I joined right away.

My first thread was about..crap I already forgot and I just looked it up... I am getting old!

I had no idea until I looked back... sadly my second thread was care plan help and that was in 2007, and Daytonite helped me.. god rest her soul.... she helped a lot of students back then!

My first post was about looking for work and feeling discouraged as a recent grad. The person who responded gave me a connection to a job I held for 4 years.

In reference to a previous comment.....you're not lying to the person who has dementia. It's called validation. You're meeting that person where they are in their world. There's no purpose served in arguing or challenging the beliefs of someone who has dementia.

I remember that thread.
