What other careers did you consider before nursing?

My original major was elementary PE teacher but then I had a pivotal moment where I decided to become a nurse and it just feels right. IMO you just have to put your heart into it to be happy and nu8rsing may not be where your heart is. Just decide what is your ultimate goal and is nursing a pit stop on the way or totally off base. I personally know that I will get my master's but my hubby wants to just stay a RN. So just do some soul searching and it will come. Good luck sorry I can't be more help.

Construction worker, builder, engineer. BRIEFLY considered teaching. Just finished 1st semester of nursing school. It feels right to me. :)

I was a hairdresser for 12 yrs before I became a nurse. At least now when my "clients" have an emergency, it's usually an actual emergency.

I worked for an insurance company as a clerk/typist many years ago. We had tuition reimbursement, and my boss who recognized potential wanted me out of the typing pool and encouraged me to go to Business Adminstration, which I did, mainly getting a lot of general education courses done, making a 4.0. When it came to the business courses like econmics and accounting I thought they were so dreadful, I hated it. The thought of working in the business/financial/insurance world depressed me and I eventually quit.

In my previous life, I was a hairdresser too! I decided I liked interacting with people, but didn't particularly enjoy doing their hair. Now if I whack someone's ear off- I can at least hold pressure the correct way!!

Hmmm..I never considered any other options. I knew from the time I was a young child that I wanted to be a nurse. I used to dress up as a nurse for halloween. I just knew I wanted to take care of people and help them get better. I had a lot of encouragement too. So right after highschool...that's what I did and I don't regret it one bit!! Good luck figuring out what you want to do. I think if that's what you truly want to do in your life, it will feel right and you will just know. If not...there are tons of other things besides nursing and you can still stay in the medical profession if you choose to.

When I was a senior in high school and getting my paperwork ready for nursing school, a nun told me that I didn't have what it takes to be a registered nurse. From the time I graduated from high school until I was 42 years old, I worked as a pharmacy tech, unit clerk, secretary, admitting clerk, ekg tech, monitor tech always with a little voice telling me to reach for the stars and go for my lifelong dream of nursing. I went back to school at 42. At 46 I reached my goal, graduated from nursing school and passed my NCLEX on the first try. Boy I'm sooo glad I didn't let that nun's words stop me.

First Teacher, history or agriculture. Then veterinarian, then graphic designer (very brief phase), then Physical therapy, then resp. therapy, x-ray tech, and Back to agri teacher.

AND FINALLY a NURSE!!!! It's something I thought I'd never even consider then I shadowed this wonderful nurse in ICU. I realized that this had everything I wanted in a job. I just got accepted to nursing school and Sometimes i wonder if I made the right choice, but i realized that when i get done with nursing school, if i absolutely hate it, I can always just go back to school and choose something else.

I'm a veterinarian, went to school, graduated, even work as a vet for a while...but it doesn't feel right. The birth of my secound child made me understand what I REALLY want to do...I want to be a midwife!!!

Chemical Eng --> Nuclear Eng ---> Philosophy --> Architecture --> History --> and finally Nursing. I finally found something to be excited about!!
