what is the pathophysilogy of....

hi i wanted to ask if any one know what is the pathophysiology of microcephaly? because i have been searching in internet and books but i didn't get the patho of it. and i really need it for my case study..so please help me. thanks! really appreciate it if u would.=)

I have always considered microcephaly more as part of an array of symptoms associated with certain chromosomal abnormalities, prenatal infections, fetal alcohol syndrome, etc. If I were looking at pathophysiology, I 'd look at the overall process that resulted in the chromosomal abnormality or prenatal infection.

You may not be able to find the pathophysiology of microcephaly because it can happen with multiple conditions. Try researching the pathophysiology of whatever led to the end result of microcephaly (among other abnormalities I assume). I'm just a student nurse myself so take it for what is worth but I think it usually has to do with prolonged hypoxia en utero, or anything that will limit nutrient and gas exchange between mom and fetus. It certainly makes sense that chromosomal abnormalities could cause it as well like the previous poster said.

A few suggestions:

1. post questions like this on the student forum for more responses https://allnurses.com/forums/f50/. Make sure you reword your question for general knowledge about pathophysiology, and not specifics, otherwise people will assume that you want them to do your homework for you.

2. before you do that, check out the "sticky" posts on the top of the page of the student forum.

3. in the "google custom search bar" in the upper right corner, type in "pathophysiology". You should be able to find lots of great starting points for your search. Especially if written by "daytonite".
