I am seeing a lot of patients coming from hospitals on Flagyl in addition to other antibiotics such as Levaquin and Cipro. I will be grateful if someone can refer me to an evidence-based resource regarding the rationale for adding Flagyl.

Thanks!

Flagyl (Metronidazole) works against most gram (-) bacteria and some gram (+) bacteria with some action against protozoa. It also has a reduced risk of causing C. Diff when compared to other antibiotics. If you have more questions, I find that infectious disease practitioners are more than willing to answer my questions.

Think hospital acquired pneumonia and c. Diff when you wonder about certain antibiotics being prescribed frequently. Those two illness are commonly the reason.
