I love the variety of people and things to see. There is no end to what can happen.

I love the teamwork: when it's good, there ain't nothing like it. You and your crew get in a groove and can handle whatever happens to come through that door.

I love being a "mama nurse" to new nurses, helping them realize that the job is doable, helping them with little bits of practical wisdom and seeing them become more confident in their practice.

I love coming up with creative solutions to problems.

I love that nursing keeps my brain engaged, to put together complex multisystem problems, and in such a way that I can handle them, know what to do next, remember them and pass the knowledge on.

I love that storytelling is a vital part of nursing communication and education. ("This one time, in room 402, ...etc.)

I love coffee for 12 hours straight, punctuated with some of the most interesting food choices on the planet. Coffee and crackers with green pepper jelly. Coffee and jalapeno flavored cheetos. Coffee and pizza. No wonder our employee bathroom stinks!

Specializes in Med/surg;correctional;nursing homes;OR.

When your Patient tells you thank you for doing a simple task, like a back rub when they can't sleep or fluffing their pillow or giving a blanket when their room is chilly. If they don't appreciate it, I still continue to perform comfort care.

OK,the fact that I always have a job, the fact that I make a difference in someone's life, the people I meet, the things I learn, the fact that I am never bored.

The complex things I can do which make all the difference.

Connecting with other people at such a fundamental level.

Being the person who can make a grieving family's experience more tolerable.

Being the person who can make a completely desperate person laugh.

Forming bonds with my co-workers on The Roughest Shift That Ever Was.

Providing comfort.

Specializes in Emergency/ Critical Care.

sometimes I get distracted by trying to learn all these new skills and procedures... yesterday I was caring for a very confused pt in the ED. I returned from break and he stopped me, took my hand and told me that he remembered me and that I took great care of him... I know it sounds small but coming from a man who had trouble remembering he was in the hospital, it was nice

Specializes in NICU.

Today I had an end stage COPDer.. Very poor lung function..Has been in and out of the hospital for many many years. Today he told me that I was the best nurse he has had in 10 years, and that he felt safe when I was his nurse. That made it all worth it.

The ability to help others

To serve

I have just finished my nursing program and am studying for NCLEX.

So. What I love about nursing----The constant movement forward even though, sometimes, you have to stop yourself to take your breath. Every day there is something new and I am absolutely sure that the rest of my life I'll spend learning and I love it!

Every day there is a challenge: a patient with a condition that is unknown for me, or a new procedure that I have never done before, a difficult patient or demanding family memeber and I have to be on my best.

I love that nursing allows me to take care for my patients and their family, and to affect the outcome. I love the feeling of responsibility and that I have control over situation (not always, unfortunately). I love feeling of being needed--- it makes my life more meaningful.

I love that even one smile received from one patient during one day brings deep satisfaction.

I love that in nursing we have to work with different personalities, different beliefs and cultures -- never boring :).

I love that nursing brings independence and also strong sense of team work. I love nursing because I know that with all my independence I won't be alone, that I'll work with people who are caring, honest, and willing to share their wisdom.

I love nursing because it gives you tools to make this life a little bit better by reducing someone's suffering and pain.

Specializes in Hospice, ER.

The hugs from patients and families. You know you made a difference!:redbeathe
