I work with a wonderful boy in a school setting. He has a trach and has suction equiptment etc. that is brought with him. Another nurse occassionally has him and when he does he leaves equiptment behind. It was brought to my attention by many people. I spoke to company I work for and explained my concerns about liability and safety. They said it has been brought to their attention before and would speak to nurse. So far nothing has changed. I am concerned something may happen and equiptment will not be available. What do I do?

Its hard to say, "oh, I reported it to the company" because it is such a serious situation. I really feel for you

The ppl whom have spoken to you about their concerns should contact the company. They would have more pull than you would, and they are the ones who are there when it happens. Is there some way you could ask them to do that?

When you say that the equipment is left behind, where was it left? Is it left at the home, or at the school? If it is left at the school, then, in my eye, at least YOU are covered for that time (because the equipment is on the premises ready for use). But if it is left at home and nothing is available to you in the event of an emergency, then, I would be deathly afraid.

I would certainly bring this up to your company several times, and ask what do you do in this case. And be persistant!

What about talking with the parents?

When I say the equiptment is left behind what I mean is it is left in classroom and he is going down many floors without it. There is no way anyone wold be able to get any equiptment in time if things go bad. As far as the parents are concerned we are not allowed to speak to them (legal, don't ask) but when I bring him home it always tempts me to tell. I want to wring this man's neck but he is very arrogant and tells people when they express concern "he doesn't really need that stuff anyway".
