What are You Grateful For? Nursing Edition

On the last Thursday in November, Americans gather together with their friends, family, and loved ones and give thanks for their blessings.

As a nurse, what are you grateful for this year?

Im thankful for the opportunity to practice nursing in my new job on an inpatient unit of a surgical hospital. I have already learned so much... The new job has given me the opportunity to hang blood and give medications via IV push. I am fortunate to be able to work with several experienced nurses who are also very good teachers. I'm grateful for the patients I care for and the opportunity to make their recovery go more smoothly. I'm grateful that all the patients I've had over the last two months or so that I've been here seem to like me. One of them gave me a Tami Hoag book that she finished with (I LOVE Tami Hoag books!). Another one said I looked just like his daughter and wanted me to take a picture with him. The patient I had tonight (just one tonight, due to not many surgeries being done during the holidays) had her children visiting, and her toddler gave me a hug and played with me. Have I mentioned I'm also grateful for out nurse-patient ratio? On an average night, I have four patients.

I'm also thankful for my former SNF job where I've worked for almost three years. It gave me the skills and experience I needed to do well in this job. I've met so many good coworkers and greatly enjoyed the residents I've cared for. So many good experiences in that job, but I'm thankful to be able to move on.

I'm also thankful for this community, where I'm constantly lurking and learning. Happy Thanksgiving, friends!
