want to move back south texas looks likes the best option

Hi I was looking at relocating closer to home. Currently i reside in Northern California but I am from MS. I relocated to the area after Hurricane Katrina, but the time has come for me to start considering a move back. I would like to move closer to home because the travel time is a whole day here from CA and all of my family is there. Dont get me wrong I know that i would be giving up a lot by moving back and i have weighed my options. I started looking at TX, particularly in the Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio areas, and from what i have researched the pay seems to be comparible to the cost of living in the area. I do not want to move back to MS persay because the pay is just not suitable, and do not get me wrong money is not everything but I know what I am worth and I deserve to make a decent living.

My family would like for me to move back to MS but everytime I visit and hear my mom's horror stories about the state facility that she works at I just can not sucumb to that torture, despite the fact that she has been a nurse for over 20 years and only makes 25.00/hr., however she lives comfortably off of that and so could I but I just feel that with that many years in, then you should be making a lot more. I guess she is waiting for retirment, so more power to her.

So my question to anyone out there is what are some good area hospitals in Houston, TX, Dallas, or San Antonio to work for, in terms of nurse pay, best place to raise kids, and lowest for crime

I don't know of any of the hospitals but I have lived in the Dallas area, actually the Mckinney area and loved it, I live in southern Cal and would love to move back east, but keep in mind the cost of living is lower so the pay will be too, Good Luck, hope you and your family find what you guys need and want.

Dallas/Fort Worth is a great area and many of the local hospitals are hiring, unlike other parts of the country. I am particular to the Fort Worth side of the metroplex and highly recommend Baylor All Saints.

I know that the pay is lower in the area due to the low cost of living, and I am ok with that. I will look into the Mckinney area and see what it has to offer. I like Dallas and I have researched the area as far as living, but I didn't know about any of the hospitals in the area

Another thing to consider is that Texas doesn't have a state income tax, so the money you make will go farther. I believe you're paying about nine percent in California.

It is true that we do not pay state income tax, but our property taxes are extremely high. Just something to think about....

just depends on where you are in the state right now where i am located it is 8.25%

Be careful if you happen to look at ut in galveston. My mom was a traveler and they hired her for a perm position. She was only there a month and they fired her saying she wasnt what they were looking for. It was in the ER. I was also offered a position but turned it down after they did that. She moved, set up a new apt with yr lease, bought furniture cause she was a traveler and didn't have any and then they did that. So word to the wise be careful as texas is a right to work state. they can fire you for any reason. also dallas area participates with this company that keeps track of who works where and if you get your name on there no one that participates will hire you. I do prn in decatur and they are a great place to work with lots of different specialties to look into . Also denton has a physicians hospital, i think its denton. Any who just be careful

I thought about Galveston at one point, but I was going to go through a placement agency. After they told me all of the information that they wanted from me before I even interviewed I basically told the recruiter that I wasn't going to do all of that unless they were going to interview me for sure.

I have heard about this company in Dallas that keeps track of nurses that are fired, kind of making me eary to apply for a position in Dallas now, but thanks for the info

MS is a right to work state also, so I am familiar with that, however i guess you just have to take the good with the bad, the only difference is right to work for bare minimums there

Finally I will check out the hospital in Denton to see what it has to offer

harris methodist fort worth is good. LVN's in Fort Worth start around $20-22hr. Cost of living not to bad. $90-120k will get you an average home.
