want a mock code

hi everyone,

I am a Chinese nurse with 2 years work in NSICU. I want to improve our rescue flowsheet. I am wandering if somebody can send me a "mock code" to me with my Email address: [email protected].

THX very much!

When you refer to "mock code" I am assuming you want an information document or poster giving the steps taken when an emergency situation occurs. If this is the case, you might try contacting emergency drug or equipment suppliers to find out if they have anything available.

We used to have a poster in the PACU at our old hospital facility detailing the steps taken in cardiac or respiratory arrest, but it disappeared when we moved to the new one. When I get to work today, I'll have a look in our in-service info folder to see if there's anything you can use.

If this is not what you're looking for, please post a reply.

Thank you for your help! I really need a poster for instruction.

I'd like to help, but I'm not sure exactly what you're looking for. It sounds like you're interested in improving the flowheet that is filled out during a code. You might find it more helpful to look into the ACLS algorithms than simply having someone else send you a "mock code". On the other hand, you state you need a poster for instruction. Are you planning on making a poster with the current flowsheet on it so you can educate staff and improve how nurses are filling it out?

Regardless, writting up a mock code can be daunting at first, but it's pretty easy once you actually do it. When I wrote one recently, I thought back to situations that occur frequently in my unit, and made one up. You might find it best to write one up yourself anyway, because that will have information that is most relevant to your unit.

Thank you for your reply:nurse: I'm sorry I even don't know what the "code" really mean, because in our country we haven't had one:confused: So I think I really need the whole file about giving emergency treatment to the patient in adult icu(NSICU), not only a flowsheet. But the flowsheet is the most important cause we want to make an education video in both Chinese and English. I thought you are the most prefessional. Thx a lot!

Sadly, all the educational documents which I found in our folder are in Afrikaans, which definitely won't help you! Our CPR refresher courses utilize course material from the American Heart Association, so you could check out CPR to see if they have anything for you.

As also suggested, you could make your own. You could also contact local manufacturers of emergency equipment to find out if they can supply or assist you with any material. Nihon Kohden springs to mind, but take a look at who supplies and maintains your own equipment, they might be able to point you in the right direction. Good luck!

I am really appreciate to your help! I think I should make it by myself cause we give the emergency treatment by ourselves in the ICU without a code blue. Thank you again~

Thank you~ That's helpful!

Code is just slang for an emergency situation, usually involving chest compressions.

http://circ.ahajournals.org/content/vol112/24_suppl/ from the American Heart Association has a lot of information about emergency/rescue events. It is a lot of reading, but it's absolutely worthwhile.
